This document is applicable to OceanStor 2800 V3. This document describes the procedure for replacing the parts of the storage system in terms of safety operations, preparations, and precautions.

Installing SmartKit

Installing SmartKit

This section describes how to install SmartKit and desired tool packages on your maintenance terminal.

Prerequisite

  • Requirements for software installation environments

    Being installed on external maintenance terminals, SmartKit has the following requirements for software installation environments, as listed in Table 5-1.

    The following tools that use private protocols do not support 64-bit operating systems:

    • Default Management IP Address Modification Tool
    • Unified Storage Deployment

    You are advised not to use Windows Server 2003 if the DHCP protocol deployment tool is used.

    Microsoft officially ceased its support for Windows Server 2003 operating system from July 14, 2015. Meanwhile, Windows Server 2003 is not compatible with JRE 1.7.0.80. Therefore, this operating system is not recommended.

    Recommended Java runtime environment (JRE) version

    JRE 1.7.0.80 32-bit

    The software package contains the JRE.

    Run the OceanStor SmartKit on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems using 32-bit JRE.

    Some of the earlier operating system versions do not support JRE 1.7.0.80. Upgrade your operating system to the latest version before using it.

    CPU

    Dual-core 2.4 GHz or higher

    If SmartKit is installed on a VM, the CPU of the VM must be at least 2.4 GHz.

    Memory

    400 MB or more free memory

    If SmartKit is installed on a VM, the memory of the VM must be at least 400 MB.

    Disk space

    Larger than 2 GB for the remaining space of the disk on which the OceanStor SmartKit resides

    1024 x 768 or above

    Internet Explorer: IE 7, IE 8, IE 9, and IE 10

    Used when you view maintenance reports.

    Installation requirement

    Only support for letters, digits, underscores, and single blank spaces in the installation path

    SmartKit needs to use 7z (compression software). The compression software only supports directories containing letters, digits, underscores, and spaces. Therefore, the installation path of SmartKit must contain only letters, digits, underscores, and single blank spaces.

  • Requirements for networks

    The maintenance terminal where SmartKit is installed must be correctly connected to the management network ports of storage systems.

Procedure

  1. Download SmartKit.

    NOTE:

    If the maintenance terminal cannot access the Internet, you need to use another terminal that can access the Internet to download the SmartKit installation package. Then copy the package to the maintenance terminal.

    • If you are an enterprise user:
      1. Use the maintenance terminal to log in to https://support.huawei.com/enterprise. In the search box on the home page, type SmartKit and choose Cloud Storage > Tools and Platform > SmartKit from the drop-down list. The search result page is displayed.
      2. On the search result page, click the Software Download tab.
      3. On the Software Download tab page, click the SmartKit version that you want to download. The page for downloading the software is displayed.
      4. In the Version and Patch Software area, download the software you need.
    • If you are a carrier user:
      1. Use the maintenance terminal to log in to https://support.huawei.com. In the search box on the home page, type SmartKit and choose Carrier Cloud & Data Center > Intelligent Data & Storage > Storage Common > SmartKit from the drop-down list. The search result page is displayed.
      2. On the search result page, click the Software tab.
      3. On the Software tab page, click the SmartKit version that you want to download. The page for downloading the software is displayed.
      4. In the Software area, download the software you need.

  2. Install SmartKit.

    1. On the maintenance terminal, run the SmartKit installation package and follow the instructions provided by the installation wizard to install SmartKit.

      After the installation is complete, SmartKit will automatically start.

    2. Type your support website account as prompted to activate SmartKit and read safety precautions.
    NOTE:
    • You can apply for an account of the support website at https://support.huawei.com.
    • You have 180 days to use an account after it is activated. If there are only 45 days or fewer days left, you will be reminded of activating the tool again. If the tool is not activated after 180 days, you only have permissions of a Visitor.
