Replacing a CRU
This section describes how to use the CRU replacement tool to replace parts.
Context
CRUs are components that users can replace at the deployment site by referring to the operation guide.
This section uses an optical module as an example.
Operators: customers
- Customers are allowed to replace CRUs, but are prohibited from replacing other components to prevent personal injury and device damage.
- Before replacing a CRU, carefully read the instructions on how to use the CRU replacement tool.
Procedure
- Optional: Download the CRU Replacement tool package. If the CRU Replacement tool package has been downloaded, go to 2.
NOTE:
- If the maintenance terminal cannot access the Internet, use another terminal that can access the Internet to download [Tool package] CRU Replacement and copy it to the maintenance terminal.
- You can also export the function package from another SmartKit environment and copy it to the maintenance terminal. For details, see section Function Export in the SmartKit User Guide.
- If you are an enterprise user:
- Use the maintenance terminal to log in to https://support.huawei.com/enterprise. In the search box on the home page, type SmartKit and choose Cloud Storage > Tools and Platform > SmartKit from the drop-down list. The search result page is displayed.
- On the search result page, click the Software Download tab.
- On the Software Download tab page, click the SmartKit version that you want to download. The page for downloading the software is displayed.
- In the Version and Patch Software area, download the software [Tool package] CRU Replacement you need.
- If you are a carrier user:
- Use the maintenance terminal to log in to https://support.huawei.com. In the search box on the home page, type SmartKit and choose Carrier Cloud & Data Center > Intelligent Data & Storage > Storage Common > SmartKit from the drop-down list. The search result page is displayed.
- On the search result page, click the Software tab.
- On the Software tab page, click the SmartKit version that you want to download. The page for downloading the software is displayed.
- In the Software area, download the software [Tool package] CRU Replacement you need.
- Run SmartKit.
- Optional: Install the CRU Replacement tool package. If the CRU Replacement tool package has been installed, go to 4.
- On SmartKit, click Function Management.
- In the function pane, click Import and select the CRU Replacement tool package for import and installation.
NOTE:
For details about how to install the CRU Replacement tool package in offline mode, see section Function Export in the SmartKit User Guide.
- Return to the SmartKit home page and choose Storage > Parts Replacement > More > Parts Replacement (CRU). The Parts Replacement (CRU) page is displayed.
- In the function pane, click Parts Replacement (CRU).
The Select Device dialog box is displayed.

NOTE:
If the device does not exist in the list, click Add Device. For details, see Checking System Status in 5.
- In the CRU Replacement dialog box, select the parts to be replaced. For example, select Optical Module.
The Replace Optical Module Wizard dialog box is displayed.
NOTE:
By default, only faulty optical modules are displayed. If you want to view all optical modules, deselect Show faulty components only.

In the displayed Confirm dialog box, select I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation. Then, the system performs the pre-replacement check.

If services on the port corresponding to the replaced optical module fail, the Danger dialog box is displayed.
- If the risk can be ignored, select I have read and understand the consequence associated with performing this operation, click OK, and go to 9.
- If you need to perform the replacement again, click Cancel and then confirm that the interface module and the controller corresponding to the optical module are working normally. If the Danger dialog box is displayed again, contact Huawei technical support.
- Click Next.
The optical module replacement page is displayed.
NOTE:
You can proceed to the next operation only when all items pass the pre-replacement check.
- Replace the optical module by performing operations in the operation guide.
- Click Replaced.
The Warning dialog box is displayed.
NOTE:
Before this operation, you need to manually replace the faulty parts.
- Click OK.
Check the system after the replacement.
