Replacing a Mini SAS HD Cable

Replacing a Mini SAS HD Cable

This section describes how to replace a mini SAS cable.

Impact on the System

When a mini SAS HD cable is being replaced, services on this cable are interrupted. Perform this operation with caution.

  • A spare part is on hand.
  • You have located the component that houses the mini SAS HD cable you want to replace.

You can locate a component in either of the following ways:

  • Log in to DeviceManager and go to the System page. On the System page, check the device view and locate the position of the component to be replaced. If the component has a Location indicator, turn on the indicator. (For details about how to turn on a Location indicator, see the online help of DeviceManager.)
  • Use the Alarm indicator of the component to locate its position.
  • Data has been backed up before you replace the cable online.

Use even force when you remove or insert a mini SAS HD cable. Excessive force may damage the appearance or connector of the mini SAS HD cable.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD wrist strap
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap.
  2. Hold the mini SAS HD cable and push the connector slightly inward, as shown in Figure 6-40.

  4. Pull the mini SAS HD cable connector out of the port and put it in to an ESD bag.
  5. Take the spare part out of the ESD bag.
  6. Insert the spare part vertically into the corresponding position, as shown in Figure 6-43.

  7. View the Port indicator, and determine whether the cable has been successfully installed.

    • If the indicator is steady green or blue, the cable has been successfully installed.
    • If the indicator is steady red or off, the newly installed cable is faulty, the cable slot is faulty, or the cable is incorrectly installed.

Follow-up Procedure

After the mini SAS HD cable is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
