Planning Storage Resources by Application
The storage system provides application-based wizards to create storage resources for Microsoft Exchange, VMware, Hyper-V, Oracle, and SQL Server. To create storage resources for other applications, follow the configuration procedure for basic storage services.
Table 3-1 shows the details of the two configuration methods.
Application Type |
Method of Creating Storage Resources |
Reference |
---|---|---|
Microsoft Exchange, VMware, Hyper-V, Oracle, and SQL Server |
Create storage resources using the corresponding wizard provided by the storage system. |
|
Other applications |
Create storage resources by following the configuration procedure for basic storage services. |
Before you use the wizard-based method to create storage resources, ensure that a storage pool for the specific application exists in the storage system. All required LUNs, LUN groups, and host groups are automatically configured, which significantly reduces configuration time.
The configuration procedures for the five applications may be different as they have their own requirements and RAID policies:
- If no storage pools that meet the application's requirements are available, create a storage pool following instructions displayed on the wizard.
- If a storage pool that meets the application's requirements is available, the storage system automatically matches with the pool. You can use the storage resource creation wizard to configure services so that the application server can use the allocated storage resources.
