Impact on the System

  • If a local storage array is redundantly connected to a remote storage array, one link down will compromise storage system performance and reliability.
  • If a local storage array is connected to a remote storage array through only one link, the link down will interrupt the LUN copy between storage arrays or between the primary and secondary LUNs of remote replication.

Possible Causes

  • The remote link is down.
  • The remote device is faulty or being restarted.
  • The local device is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check all cable connections of the link.

    1. If any cable is removed, reinsert it. If the alarm persists=> 1.2.
    2. Replace the cable. If the alarm persists=> Step2.
    3. If all cable connections are normal=> Step2.

  2. Check whether the remote device status is normal.

    1. If the remote device is abnormal, rectify the faults. If the alarm persists=> 2.2.
    2. If the remote device is being restarted, wait until the restart is complete. If the alarm persists=> Step3.
    3. If the remote device is normal=> Step3.

  3. Check whether the local device status is normal.

    1. If the local device is abnormal, rectify the faults. If the alarm persists=> Step4.
    2. If the local device is normal=> Step4.
