MCAST/4/TRAP

MCAST/4/TRAP

Description

MCAST/4/TRAP/0xff0e2001 T/M "[STRING]"

L2MC or IPMC indexes were used up.

Attribute

Alarm ID Alarm Severity Alarm Type
None. Warning ADMC

Parameters

Name Meaning
STRING Indicates the alarm message:
  1. No index can be allocated for L2MC.

No L2MC index is available because all indexes are used up.

  2. No index can be holded for L2MC.

No L2MC index is available for other reasons.

  3. No index can be allocated for IPMC.

No IPMC index is available because all indexes are used up.

  4. No index can be holded for IPMC.

No IPMC index is available for other reasons.

Impact on the System

New multicast entries cannot be generated, and multicast service is interrupted.

Possible Causes

The number of multicast entries exceeded the upper limit. The L2MC or IPMC indexes had been used up.

Procedure

  1. If an L2MC alarm message is generated, Layer 2 multicast service is forwarded based on MAC addresses, and L2MC indexes are used up. Run the reset igmp-snooping group { all | vlan { all | vlan-id } } command to delete unneeded entries. To delete Layer 2 static multicast entries, run the undo l2-multicast static-group [ source-address source-ip-address ] group-address group-ip-address vlan { all | { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] } &<1-10> } command in the interface view.
  2. If an IPMC alarm message is generated, the IPMC entries are used up. Perform the following operations:

    • Run the display igmp-snooping port-info command to check whether too many Layer 2 multicast entries forwarded in IP mode are generated on the device. Run the reset igmp-snooping group { all | vlan { all | vlan-id } } command to delete unneeded entries. If Layer 2 static multicast entries are generated, run the undo l2-multicast static-group [ source-address source-ip-address ] group-address group-ip-address vlan { all | { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] } &<1-10> } command in the interface view to delete the unneeded entries.
    • Run the display multicast forwarding-table command to check whether too many Layer 3 multicast entries are generated on the device. If so, run the reset multicast forwarding-table { group-address [ mask { group-mask | group-mask-length } ] | source-address [ mask { source-mask | source-mask-length } ] } command to delete unneeded Layer 3 multicast entries.

  3. Check whether new multicast entries can be generated and whether the multicast service runs normally.

    • If so, no further action is required.
    • If not, contact technical support personnel.
