Submenu for Modifying the Flash Description

Submenu for Modifying the Flash Description

Context

When the system software on a device is damaged and you cannot log in to the device, you can use the BootROM to upload the system software, configuration file, and patch file, and configure the device to start using the uploaded files. In this way, you can restore the system software and upgrade the device.

NOTE:

Before modifying startup configuration information, upload specified files to the CF card as described in Serial Port Submenu or Ethernet Submenu.

Procedure

  1. In the main BootROM menu, select 9 to access the submenu for modifying the flash description.

                 MAIN  MENU

         1. Boot with default mode
         2. Boot from Flash
         3. Boot from CFCard
         4. Enter serial submenu
         5. Enter ethernet submenu
         6. Enter file system submenu
         7. Enter test submenu
         8. Enter password submenu
         9. Modify Flash description area
        10. Clear password for console user
        11. Reboot

    Enter your choice(1-11): 9

  2. Select the startup storage device. A device supports the flash memory and CF card as the startup storage device. After you select a startup storage device, the device searches the storage device for the specified startup files. However, the system software size is almost the same size as the flash memory size; therefore, the CF card is generally used as the startup storage device.

    Modify flash description area
    Please select booting device.
    Press ENTER directly for no change or input your choice.
    1: Flash, 2: CFcard
    Current booting device: 1, your choice:2

    In the preceding output, 1 indicates the startup using the flash memory, and 2 indicates the startup using the CF card. The default value is 1. Select 2 and press Enter.

  3. Specify the system software.

    Current booting File Name: cfcard:/s9700-v200r003c00.cc,
    Press ENTER directly for no change.
    Or, please input the file name (e.g. quidway.cc):

    Enter the name of the specified system software and press Enter. If the current system software is available and does not require reset, directly press Enter.

    NOTE:
    • The specified system software must be available and stored on the CF card; otherwise, the device fails to start. If the startup based on the specified system software fails for five consecutive times, the device starts using the system software in the last successful startup.

    • When new system software is configured, the system checks the system software integrity. If the digital signature of the system software is invalid, the configuration fails. Therefore, ensure the system software validity.

    • If the system software to be specified is V200R008 or an earlier version, you must restore the default BootROM password first according to Restoring the BootROM Password and then specify the system software. Otherwise, the BootROM password will not be used or a fault occurs on the switch. If the BootROM password cannot be used after the downgrade, run the reset boot password command to restore the default BootROM password again.

  4. Specify the configuration file.

    Saved-configuration file
    '.'=clear field; 'Ctrl+D'=quit; Enter=use current configuration
    new=change to other configuration file
    current: vrpcfg.zip
    new    :

    Enter the name of the specified configuration file and press Enter. If the service configuration does not require reset, directly press Enter. By default, the device uses the configuration file vrpcfg.zip.

    After you specify a configuration file, the device prompts you to select the storage device in which the configuration file is saved.
    Please select configuration booting device
    Press ENTER directly for no change or input your choice
    1: Flash, 2: CFcard
    Current configuration booting device : 2, your choice :
    NOTE:
    • The specified configuration file must be available and stored on the CF card; otherwise, the device starts using the factory settings.
    • If you enter a dot (.), the existing storage device configuration is deleted.
    • To return to the BootROM main menu, press Ctrl+D.
    • If you press Enter, the current configuration information is used without any change.

  5. Specify the patch file.

    Saved-patch file
    '.'=clear field; 'Ctrl+D'=quit; Enter=use current patch
    new=change to other patch file
    current:
    new    :

    Enter the name of the patch file and press Enter. The BootROM main menu is displayed. Press Enter if you do not need to upgrade the patch file. By default, no patch file is specified.

    After you specify a patch file, the device prompts you to select the storage device in which the patch file is saved.
    Please select patch booting device
    Press ENTER directly for no change or input your choice
