Serial Port Submenu

Serial Port Submenu

The serial port can be used for transferring files when the management interface fails. The transmission rate on the serial port is low. The default transmission rate is 9600 bit/s. You are advised to set the transmission rate to 115200 bit/s before transferring files.

NOTE:

The serial port uses the file transfer protocol XModem to transfer files. Select the correct transfer protocol to transfer files.

In the BootROM main menu, select 4 to access the serial port submenu.

Item

Description

1. Download file to SDRAM through serial interface and boot

Loads the system software to the device memory using the serial port and starts the system.

During startup, the device reads startup files including the system software and configuration file from the storage device and loads the files to the synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) on the device. This option directly loads the system software to the SDRAM, without the reading process. In this way, the device can start after loading the system software even if the storage device fails.

2. Download file to Flash through serial interface

Loads files to the flash memory using the serial port.

A flash memory stores the bottom-layer startup files and system backup files. You can upload the BootROM program file to the flash memory.

3. Download file to CFCard through serial interface

Loads files to the CF card using the serial port.

The CF card works as the default storage device that stores the system software, configuration file, patch file, and running data. You can upload the system software to the CF card for upgrading the device. You are advised to use Ethernet transmission for this operation because the transmission rate on the serial port is low.

4. Update CPLD by serial

Updates the complex programmable logical device (CPLD) version using the serial port.

NOTE:

Perform this operation under the instruction of technical support personnel.

5. Modify serial interface parameter

Allows you to modify parameters on the serial port. The default transmission rate is 9600 bit/s. The serial port supports the following transmission rates:
  • 9600 bit/s (default)
  • 19200 bit/s
  • 38400 bit/s
  • 57600 bit/s
  • 115200 bit/s
NOTE:

After changing the transmission rate on the serial port, synchronize the transmission rate on the PC with that on the serial port and reconnect the PC to the device.
