Description

The system clock status changes between tracing, holding, and free running. The clock of a device changes from tracing to free running if the object traced by the device changes from upstream clock to local oscillator. If the clock control data is saved in the memory of the device in tracing state, when the unique traced clock source is lost, the clock of the device enters the holding state. If all the clock control data in the memory is retrieved, the clock of the device switches from holding state to free running state.

Possible Causes

Cause 1:

The clock source is adjusted manually according to network requirements.

Cause 2:

The current clock source is lost.

The SSM information from the upstream device is changed when the SSM quality level is used in clock source selection.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the clock switchover is performed through commands because services are adjusted.

    • If so, this alarm is informational, and the alarm handling ends.

    • If not, go to step 2.

  2. According to the alarm information, run the display clock source command to check the value of Signal Fail to determine whether the clock source is lost before the switchover.

    • If so, go to step 5.
    • If not, collect alarm information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel.

  3. Run the display clock mode command to check whether the value of QL-Enable is enabled.

    • If so, the SSM quality level is used in clock source selection. Then go to step 6.
    • If not, the priority is used for clock source selection. Then go to step 4.

  4. Run the display clock left-frame|right-frame command to check the priority of the clock source that the interface sends and run the display clock priority command to check the priority of each clock source. Then determine whether the priority meets application requirements.

    • If so, no action is required.
    • If not, go to step 5.

  5. Run the clock left-frame|right-frame, clock priority, and clock clock wait-to-restore commands to adjust the path for selecting the clock source according to networking requirements. Then the alarm handling ends.
  6. Run the display clock state and display clock source commands to check the SSM information about the line clock source. Then determine whether the adjusted clock source meets application requirements.

    • If so, no action is required.
    • If not, go to step 7.

  7. Run the clock ssm-config command on the master clock device to set the quality level of the master clock or run the clock force-out-s1 command on the upstream device to adjust the path for selecting the clock source. Then the alarm handling ends.
