MCAST/3/MCAST_CSS:Failed to get the number of stackboard (Number = [ULONG]).


The system failed to obtain the number of cards with physical CSS ports.


Parameter Name Parameter Meaning
Number Indicates the number of cards with physical CSS ports.

Possible Causes

  • When the device is creating a multicast entry, it attempts to obtain the number of cards with physical CSS ports for inter-chassis traffic forwarding. The CSS module is counting the number of cards with physical CSS ports at this time. As a result, the device fails to obtain this information due a time sequencing issue. When the CSS module finishes counting the number of cards with physical CSS ports, the device can obtain this information.
  • An error occurs in the CSS module.


  1. Run the display css css-port command to check whether there are physical CSS ports.
  2. If physical CSS ports are displayed, the device has obtained the number of cards with physical CSS ports. Deletes all multicast entries on the device. When some hosts order multicast programs, check whether the hosts can receive multicast data.
  3. Check whether the log is still recorded.
  4. If the log is still recorded, collect log information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel. For details, see Troubleshooting-Information Collection-Collecting Diagnostic Information.
