Features Not Supported in a CSS

After two switches set up a CSS, the following features cannot be configured in the CSS:
  • Synchronous Ethernet clock

  • Precision Time Protocol (PTP) (IEEE 1588)

CSS Specifications and Limitations

  • For MAD specifications:
    • You can configure a maximum of four direct detection links for each member switch in a CSS.
    • You can configure the relay mode on a maximum of four Eth-Trunks in a CSS.
    • In V200R008C00 and earlier versions, you can configure a maximum of 64 Eth-Trunks on a relay agent to provide the relay function for multiple CSS systems. This restriction does not apply to versions later than V200R008C00.
  • If an S12700 switch has no SFU installed, the switch will incorrectly forward data. To ensure fast service switchover and improve reliability, the switch automatically changes port states of all LPUs to Down.

  • After S12700 switches set up a CSS, the bandwidth for multicast and broadcast traffic is limited by the cluster bandwidth. If multicast traffic requires high bandwidth, it is recommended that you install at least two CSS cards in each chassis and connect cluster cables to all the ports on the two CSS cards.

Notes About 1+N Backup of MPUs (The Standby Chassis Has No MPU)
  • In a CSS set up using S12700s, the CSS will not split even if all MPUs in one chassis are faulty, and the CSS works in single-MPU state.
    • Running services in the CSS are not affected, but the standby chassis SFU that does not connect to the master chassis does not participate in inter-chassis service forwarding.
    • You can only run the display commands but cannot use the configuration commands.
    • The CSS periodically sends alarms to notify users that the CSS has no MPU installed on the standby chassis.
    Because a CSS with no MPU installed on the standby chassis has low reliability, you are advised to install the MPUs of the standby chassis to ensure reliability.
  • During the fast upgrade performed using the css fast upgrade command or an upgrade performed using the upgrade all command, if the standby chassis has no MPU, upgrading the CSS will stop for at most 10 minutes. If the standby chassis still has no MPU within 10 minutes, the CSS will exit from the upgrade.
