Configuring Association Between CFM and BFD

Context

For details on the principle and usage scenarios of association between CFM and BFD, see Fault Information Advertisement Between CFM and Other Modules.

Association between CFM and BFD is bidirectional. When CFM detects a link fault, it will notify BFD of the fault. When BFD detects a link fault, it will notify CFM of the fault.

The following types of BFD sessions can be used:
  • Static BFD for LSP (LDP, TE, TE LSP, and static LSP) sessions (a PST is required)

  • BFD for IP sessions (no PST is required)

Perform the following operations on the device of a link configured with CFM at one side and BFD at the other side.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring association between CFM and BFD, complete the following tasks:

Procedure

  1. Run:

    system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run:

    oam-mgr

    The OAM management view is displayed.

  3. Run the following commands as required.

    Faults need to be transmitted bidirectionally between CFM and BFD.

    Run the oam-bind cfm md md-name ma ma-name bfd-session bfd-session-id command to configure BFD and CFM to report faults to each other.

    NOTE:

    If the oam-bind cfm md md-name ma ma-name bfd-session bfd-session-id command is run, oam-bind ingress bfd-session bfd-session-id egress cfm md md-name ma ma-name and oam-bind ingress cfm md md-name ma ma-name egress bfd-session bfd-session-id will be displayed in the configuration file.

    Use the following commands:
    • Run the oam-bind ingress bfd-session bfd-session-id egress cfm md md-name ma ma-name command to configure BFD to report faults to CFM.

    • Run the oam-bind ingress cfm md md-name ma ma-name egress bfd-session bfd-session-id command to configure CFM to report faults to BFD.

    Faults need to be transmitted unidirectionally between CFM and BFD.

    Choose either of the following commands based on the transmission direction:
    • Run the oam-bind ingress bfd-session bfd-session-id egress cfm md md-name ma ma-name command to configure BFD to report faults to CFM.

    • Run the oam-bind ingress cfm md md-name ma ma-name egress bfd-session bfd-session-id command to configure CFM to report faults to BFD.
