If uplink outbound interfaces of a VRRP group are located on the same card, the card reset may cause a failure to forward user traffic because there is no outbound interface. In this situation, a VRRP active/standby switchover must be performed. The link monitored by BFD is normal and the BFD session does not go Down, so the millisecond-level switching performance cannot be ensured. After a BFD session is associated with a card and the card is set, the BFD session immediately goes Down, triggering the VRRP active/standby switchover. The switching performance is therefore improved.

In VRRP load balancing scenarios, if the switch is the master of VRRP group 1 and backup of VRRP group 2. When the BFD session becomes Down, the backup devices of VRRP groups 1 and 2 become master devices. The switch that switches from master to slave sends VRRP Advertisement packets and gratuitous ARP packets, affecting packet forwarding on the Layer switch at the access layer. The traffic from users to the network is forwarded to the new master device of a VRRP group, but the card of the new master device cannot forward traffic. Consequently, user packets are discarded.

After VRRP is associated with a card and the card is reset, the switch is suppressed from sending VRRP Advertisement packets and gratuitous ARP packets, preventing incorrect VRRP active/standby switchover.


The device supports this command only when the MPU is ET1D2MPUA000.
