The WLAN AC can be deployed on an X series interface card to centrally manage APs and provide Wi-Fi access services for users. The AC manages and controls APs through CAPWAP protocol packets. The X series interface card can process CAPWAP packets; therefore, packets from the APs must enter the switch through the X series interface card.

As shown in Figure 3-1, an AP connects to the AC through a PoE switch. The PoE switch directly connects to and supplies power for the AP. In the uplink direction, the PoE switch connects to the X series interface card, so packets from the AP are processed by the X series interface card before reaching the AC.
