Replacing an Interface Module

This section explains how to replace an interface module of the C72.

Impact on the System

You must power off the C72 before replacing an interface module. This interrupts the services running on the C72. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

Prerequisites

  • A replacement interface module is ready.
  • The interface module that you want to replace has been located.
  • The cable connection positions of the interface module that you want to replace are labeled on the cables.
  • The cables have been disconnected from the interface module that you want to replace.

Precaution

  • Use care when you remove and insert an interface module to avoid any damage to the appearance or connectors of the interface module.
  • An interface module is installed in a controller module. Before removing an interface module, you must remove its controller module.
  • Replace only one interface module at a time. In addition, ensure that the controller module where the other interface module resides works properly.
  • You are advised to replace an interface module within the shortest time possible.

Tools and Materials

  • Phillips screwdriver (M3 to M6)
  • ESD wrist strap
  • ESD bag
  • Labels

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap.
  2. Log in to the node through the serial port as user root (default password is Root@storage), then run poweroff to poweroff the node and wait for the shutdown to complete.

    Set Bits per second to 115200, Data bits to 8, Stop bits to 1, Parity to None, and Flow control to None.

    Wait for the serial screen to have no output, indicates that the shutdown has been completed.

  3. After marking the cable connection positions on the new control module, unplug cables from the control module to be replaced.
  4. Press the latch on the controller module, open the ejector handle, and remove the controller module, as shown in Figure 7-25.

  5. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the interface module, and pull out the interface module upwards, as shown in Figure 7-26.

  6. Place the removed interface module into an ESD bag.
  7. Take the replacement interface module out of its ESD bag.
  8. Insert the interface module downwards into the slot, and use the Phillips screwdriver to fasten the interface module to the controller module, as shown in Figure 7-27.

  9. Open the ejector handle of the controller module, insert the controller module into the empty slot, and close the ejector handle, as shown in Figure 7-28.

  10. Connect cables.
  11. Wait about 2 minutes and check the statuses of the controller module running/alarm indicator on the controller module to determine whether the interface module is successfully installed. Figure 7-29 shows the locations of the power and alarm indicators on a controller module.

    • If the controller module running/alarm indicator is green, the controller module and the interface module are successfully installed.
    • If the controller module running/alarm indicator is off or red, the interface module is faulty or incorrectly installed, or the controller module is incorrectly installed.

  12. Use a serial port to log in to the operating system as user root, and run the following script to initiate a node status self-check.

    cd /opt/product/deploy/script

    ./envcheck.py

    The normal self-check result is as follows:

  13. Check whether network ports on the storage node are named P0, P1, NIC0, NIC1, NIC2, and NIC3, respectively.
    1. Use a serial port to log in to the operating system as user root, and run ifconfig -a to check whether network ports on the storage node are named P0, P1, NIC0, NIC1, NIC2, and NIC3.

      • If yes, go to 14.
      • If no, go to 13.b.

    2. Run reboot to restart the storage node, so that new network adapters can be identified.
  14. Check the status of the storage node on the DeviceManager.
    1. Start the browser on the maintenance terminal and log in to the DeviceManager.
    2. In the Alarms area on the home page, check whether a new alarm is reported.

      • If yes, handle the alarm according to the alarm help.
      • If no, go to 14.c.

    3. Click Device View to go to the device view.
    4. In Nodes, check the status of the node that is newly added to the cluster.

      • Health Status: Normal
      • Running Status: Online

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the interface module, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
