Replacing Both System Disk Modules

System disk modules are used to boot operating systems.

Impact on the System

If both system disk modules of a system fail, the system will break down.

Prerequisites

  • Prepare the FRU replacement tool.

    The FRU replacement tool provided by SmartKit helps to complete the online replacement of the disk module. For details about the mapped SmartKit version, see OceanStor 9000 Version Mapping.

    To obtain the tool, log in to technical support web site (http://support.huawei.com/enterprise/).
    1. Obtain the SmartKit tool package and install the tool: navigate to Support > Tools > SmartKit > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX.zip.
    2. Obtain and import the tool package of FRU replacement: navigate to Support > Tools > SmartKit > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX_Tool_fru.zip.
    3. Obtain and import the service package of FRU replacement: navigate to Support > Software Download > Cloud Storage > Scale-out Storage > OceanStor 9000 > OceanStor 9000 VX00R00XCXXSPCXXX > OceanStor_9000_VX00R00XCXXSPCXXX-toolcase.zip. Then after unziping this package, the OceanStor 9000 VX00R00XCXXSPCXXX_Pkg_FRU_limited.zip file is the service package.

  • The replacement system disk modules are ready.
  • The faulty system disk modules have been located. Figure 2-10 shows the system disk module slots.

Precaution

  • To prevent damaging the system disk modules or connectors, remove or install the system disk modules with even force.
  • When you remove a system disk module, first remove it from the port. Wait at least 30 seconds and remove the system disk module completely from the storage node.
  • To prevent a system disk module from damage, wait at least 1 minute after removal and before reinserting a system disk module, or after insertion and before removing a system disk module.
  • To avoid system failures, do not reuse disks.
  • If the system version is earlier than V300R006C00SPC200, check whether the /opt/inspect directory exists after replacing the two system disks. If the directory does not exist, copy the inspect folder from another node to the path. Ensure that the user groups of the inspect folder and their permissions are the same as those of other nodes.
  • If the hot patch has been installed, install it on the faulty node again after replacing the two system disks.

Procedure

  1. Repeat 1 to 7 in Replacing a System Disk Module to replace both system disk modules.
  2. Use an operating system image file that matches the original version of the node to be recovered to set the system disk RAID and install the operating system by referring to the OceanStor 9000 Software Installation Guide.
  3. Use the KVM to log in to the operating system as user root. Configure a preset IP address for an original back-end network port on the node for cross-node communication. For example, if the back-end network port is SLOT4-0.2, its preset IP address is 192.168.0.10, and its subnet mask is 16 bits, run the ifconfig SLOT4-0.2 192.168.0.10 netmask 255.255.0.0 command.

    Back-end network port names and IP addresses of nodes can be viewed in the configuration files dedicated to the software installation. Alternatively, you can log in to DeviceManagerand click the device icon. On the Device View page that is displayed, click the node name and select Ports.

  4. If the cluster contains multiple nodes, on the node to be repaired, run the /usr/bin/BackUp_KeyData_Recovery.sh local_ip remote_ip command to restart the node.

    In this command, local_ip indicates the back-end network IP address of the node to be repaired, and remote_ip indicates the back-end IP address of an normal node whose version is the same as that of the node to be repaired. To obtain the node version information, log in to DeviceManager and click the device icon. On the Device View page that is displayed, select Basic Node Information.

  5. Log in to DeviceManager and click the device icon. On the Device View page that is displayed, click the node name and select Nodes to view the node status.

    Check whether Health Status is Normal and Running Status is Online.

    • If yes, go to 6.
    • If no, contact Huawei technical support.

  6. Inspect the system using SmartKit. Choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection to check the system status. For details, see the OceanStor 9000 Routine Maintenance.

    • If all inspection items are successful: The inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail the inspection: The inspection is failed. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. You need to reperform inspection after rectifying. If the inspection is still failed, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the system disk modules, label the replaced system disk modules to facilitate subsequent operations.
