Replacing a Power Module

Replacing a Power Module

Power modules support 1+1 redundancy and are hot-swappable.

Impact on the System

None

Prerequisites

  • Prepare the FRU replacement tool.

The FRU replacement tool provided by SmartKit helps to complete the online replacement of the power module. For details about the mapped SmartKit version, see OceanStor 9000 Version Mapping.

To obtain the tool, log in to technical support web site (http://support.huawei.com/enterprise/).
    1. Obtain the SmartKit tool package and install the tool: navigate to Support > Tools > SmartKit > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX.zip.
    2. Obtain and import the tool package of FRU replacement: navigate to Support > Tools > SmartKit > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX > SmartKit VXRXCXXRCX_Tool_fru.zip.
    3. Obtain and import the service package of FRU replacement: navigate to Support > Software Download > Cloud Storage > Scale-out Storage > OceanStor 9000 > OceanStor 9000 VX00R00XCXXSPCXXX > OceanStor_9000_VX00R00XCXXSPCXXX-toolcase.zip. Then after unziping this package, the OceanStor 9000 VX00R00XCXXSPCXXX_Pkg_FRU_limited.zip file is the service package.

See more details in Preparations of OceanStor 9000 Routine Maintenance.

  • The replacement power module is ready.
  • The faulty power module has been located.

Precaution

Before replacing a power module, disconnect it from the external power source. Otherwise, device damage or even personal injury will occur.
  • Be careful when removing and inserting a disk module to avoid any damage to the appearance or connectors of the power module.
  • Remove the faulty power module and insert the replacement one within 2 minutes.
  • When installing a power module, do not place your fingers over the power module. Otherwise, your fingers may get hurt.

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Optional: If you are going to configure only one power module, power off the P36E or C36E.
  3. Open the velcro strap binding the power cables.
  4. Remove the power cable from the PSU to be replaced. See Figure 3-9.

  6. Place the removed PSU in an ESD bag.
  7. Take the spare AC PSU out of its ESD bag.
  8. Push the spare AC PSU along the guide rails into a slot until the PSU clicks into place.

The PSU latch snaps in so that the PSU does not move. See Figure 3-11.

  9. Connect the power cable to the PSU. See Figure 3-12.

Figure 3-12  Connecting a power cable to an AC PSU

  10. Use a velcro strap to bundle the power cables onto the eject lever of the power module.
  11. View the power module indicators to check whether the installation is successful.

    • If the power module indicators are steady green, the installation is successful.
    • If the power module indicators are off, the power module is improperly installed. In this case, remove and reinsert the power module.

  12. Inspect the system using SmartKit. Choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection to check the system status. For details, see the OceanStor 9000 Routine Maintenance.

    • If all inspection items are successful: The inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail the inspection: The inspection is failed. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. You need to reperform inspection after rectifying. If the inspection is still failed, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the power module, label the replaced power module to facilitate subsequent operations.
