Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

If users want to mirror packets to multiple observing ports, add these ports to an observing port group. The mirrored packets are then copied to all the member ports of the observing port group.

Prerequisites

An observing port group has been created using the observe-port group command.

Precautions

  • The following ports cannot be added to an observing port group:
    • Mirroring port

    • Observing port

    • Eth-Trunk member port

    • Stack physical member port

  • A member port added to an observing port group cannot be configured as an observing port.

  • A maximum of 64 member ports can be added to an observing port group.

Example

# Add 10GE1/0/1 to 10GE1/0/4 to observing port group 1.

Usage Guidelines

Users can run the mirroring cpu command to redirect packets matching a traffic classifier to the CPU for packet analysis and monitoring.

Traffic matching the traffic classifier is mirrored to the CPU, which degrades CPU performance. Therefore, use this command with caution.

Example

# Mirror the traffic matching certain rules to the CPU.

<HUAWEI> system-view
[~HUAWEI] traffic behavior tb1

The undo mirroring command disables traffic mirroring that mirrors the traffic matching certain rules to an observing port or an observing port group.

By default, traffic mirroring that mirrors the traffic matching certain rules to an observing port or an observing port group is disabled.

Format

(On switches except the CE6870EI) mirroring observe-port observe-port-index

(On the CE6870EI) mirroring observe-port observe-port-index &<1-8> [ random-packets random-packets ]

(On the CE6870EI) mirroring observe-port group group-id

(On switches except the CE6870EI) undo mirroring [ observe-port observe-port-index ]

(On the CE6870EI) undo mirroring [ observe-port observe-port-index &<1-8> [ random-packets random-packets ] ]

(On the CE6870EI) undo mirroring [ observe-port group group-id ]

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
observe-port-index

Specifies the index of the observing port.

The value is an integer that ranges from 1 to 8.

group group-id

Specifies the ID of the observing port group.

The value is an integer that ranges from 1 to 128.

random-packets random-packets

Specifies the interval for collecting mirrored packets.

By default, all mirrored packets are copied to observing ports.

NOTE:

A larger interval causes more differences between actual and expected mirrored packets.

The value is an integer that ranges from 1 to 65535.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

You can run the mirroring observe-port command to mirror the traffic matching certain rules to an observing port. Users can also run the mirroring observe-port group command on the CE6870EI to mirror the traffic to an observing port group so that the packets are copied to all the member ports of the observing port group.

Prerequisites

An observing port has been configured using the observe-port (local observing port) command or an observing port group has been configured using the observe-port group command.

Example

# Mirror the traffic matching certain rules to observing port 1.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

Users can use the mirroring observe-port command to mirror the traffic on all active ports in a specified VLAN to an observing port.

Precautions

The traffic in the same direction of all active ports in a specified VLAN cannot be concurrently mirrored to an observing port and an observing port group.

VLAN mirroring can be simultaneously configured in a maximum of 128 VLANs.

Example

# Mirror incoming packets on active ports in VLAN 10 to observing port 1.

<HUAWEI> system-view
[~HUAWEI] observe-port 1 interface 10ge 1/0/1
[*HUAWEI] vlan 10
[*HUAWEI-vlan10] mirroring observe-port 1 inbound

The undo observe-port command deletes a local observing port.

By default, no local observing port is configured.

Format

observe-port [ observe-port-index ] interface interface-type interface-number

undo observe-port observe-port-index

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
observe-port-index

Specifies the index of the observing port.

The value is an integer ranging from 1 to 8. If no observing port index is specified, the system assigns unused indexes in the range of 1 to 8 to observing ports in sequence.

interface interface-type interface-number
Specifies the type and number of the observing port.
  • interface-type specifies the type of the port.

  • interface-number specifies the number of the port.

The interface type can be Ethernet or Eth-Trunk interface.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

When configuring local mirroring, you must specify the ports that are directly connected to monitoring devices as local observing ports.

Precautions

If the observe-port-index parameter is not specified when multiple observing ports are configured, by default, the observing port indexes ranging from 1 to 8 start from 1 and increase by 1 each time you run this command. These indexes cannot conflict with the existing configured indexes.

Example

# Configure 10GE1/0/1 as the observing port, and set the port index to 1.

[~HUAWEI] observe-port 1 interface 10ge 1/0/1
