apply-label

apply-label

Function

The apply-label per-instance command configures all routes in the current VPN instance address family to use the same label value when sent to the peer PE. This label allocation mode is called label per instance.

The apply-label per-route command configures all routes in the current VPN instance address family to use different label values when sent to the peer PE. This label allocation mode is called label per route.

The undo apply-label per-instance command disables the label per instance distribution mode.

The undo apply-label per-route command disables the label per route distribution mode.

By default, the label distribution mode is label per instance.

NOTE:

CE6880EI does not support this command.

Format

apply-label { per-instance | per-route }

undo apply-label { per-instance | per-route }

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
per-instance Enables the label per instance distribution mode. -
per-route Enables the label per route distribution mode. -

Views

Usage Guidelines

Scenario

On a BGP/MPLS IP VPN:

  • When a large number of VPN routes on the PE exhausts MPLS label resources, the label per instance mode saves label resources on the PE and lowers the requirement for the PE's capacity. For example, if two VPN instances are configured on the PE and they have a total of 20,000 VPN routes, only two labels are required by default. If the label per route mode is used, 20,000 labels are occupied.
  • When only a small number of VPN routes exist on the PE and MPLS label resources are sufficient, you can run the apply-label per-route command to improve system security. In this way, downstream devices can load balance VPN traffic based on the inner labels of packets.

Prerequisites

The route-distinguisher command has been executed to set the RD of the VPN instance.

Precautions

By default, label per instance is used.
  • Neither the apply-label per-instance nor undo apply-label per-instance command changes the default configuration.
  • After you configure label per route using the apply-label per-route command, the undo apply-label per-route or apply-label per-instance command can restore the default configuration.

Exercise caution when changing the label allocation mode. The change leads to route redistribution of the VPN instance address family and services are interrupted for a short period.

Example

# Configure the label per route mode for routes in vpn1.

<HUAWEI> system-view
[~HUAWEI] ip vpn-instance vpn1
[*HUAWEI-vpn-instance-vpn1] ipv4-family
[*HUAWEI-vpn-instance-vpn1-af-ipv4] route-distinguisher 100:1
[*HUAWEI-vpn-instance-vpn1-af-ipv4] apply-label per-route
