NOTE:

The sFlow function conforms to RFC3176 and sFlow.org standard. For security risks, see RFC3176. This function involves analyzing the communications information of terminal customers. Before enabling the function, ensure that it is performed within the boundaries permitted by applicable laws and regulations. Effective measures must be taken to ensure that information is securely protected.

Only CE6880EI does not support sFlow.

assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit

Function

The assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit command limits the rate of sFlow packets sent from a switch to the control plane, thereby limiting the rate of sFlow packets sent out by the control plane.

The undo assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit command cancels limitation on the rate of sFlow packets sent from a switch to the control plane.

By default, the rate of sFlow packets sent to the control plane is not limited.

Parameters

Specifies the stack ID of the switch where the rate of output sFlow packets is limited.

If this parameter is not specified, the rate of sFlow packets sent from all cards to the control plane is limited.

The value is an integer. You can enter a question mark (?) and select a value from the displayed value range.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

After sFlow is configured on a switch, the switch selects a service interface or management interface to send out sFlow packets according to the route to the sFlow Collector. If the switch selects the service interface, the sFlow packets generated in sFlow sampling are forwarded out through the service interface, but do not pass the control plane. If the switch selects the management interface, the sFlow packets generated in sFlow sampling are forwarded to the control plane for processing and then sent out through the management interface.

When a network has heavy traffic and the switch sends sFlow packets through the management interface to the sFlow Collector, a large number of sFlow packets generated by a switch are sent to the control plane to overwhelm the CPU and affect the running of other protocols, or even cause the switch to be out of management. To limit the rate of sFlow packets sent from a switch to the control plane, run the assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit command. After this command is executed, the rate of sFlow packets sent from the control plane is also limited, and the number of sFlow packets sent through the management interface is reduced.

Precautions

If the assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit rate-limit slot slot-id command has been executed to limit the rate of sFlow packets sent from a specified slot to the control plane, you cannot run the assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit rate-limit command to limit the rate of sFlow packets sent from all slots to the control plane. If the assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit rate-limit command has been executed to limit the rate of sFlow packets sent from all slots to the control plane, you cannot run the assign sflow management-plane export rate-limit rate-limit slot slot-id command to limit the rate of sFlow packets sent from a specified slot to the control plane.

Function

The display sflow configuration command displays the configuration information of the sFlow.

Agent IP Address

IP address of the sFlow agent. To set the sFlow agent IP address, see sflow agent.

Collector ID

ID of the sFlow collector. To set the collector ID, see sflow collector.

IP Address

IP address of the sFlow collector. To set the collector IP address, see sflow collector.

UDP Port

Port number of the sFlow collector. To set the port number of the sFlow collector, see sflow collector.

Length

Size of sFlow packets sent to the sFlow collector. To set the size of sFlow packets, see sflow collector.

Export extended-route-data

The sFlow packets sent by the switch do not carry routing information. To set this function, see sflow export extended-route-data disable.

Local-host Sampling

Sampling configuration for the packets to be sent to the CPU. To configure sampling for the packets to be sent to the CPU, see sflow sampling local-host.

NOTE

sFlow sampling mode on the interface. To set the sampling mode, see sflow counter and sflow sampling.

Function

The display sflow packet statistics command displays sFlow packet statistics.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

When diagnosing and locating sFlow faults, collect sFlow packet statistics in a specified period. Before statistics collection starts, you can run this command to delete historical sFlow packet statistics.

Precautions

The reset sflow packet statistics command deletes all sFlow packet statistics. The statistics cannot be restored after being cleared. Before running this command, confirm the action.

sflow agent

Function

The sflow agent command creates an sFlow agent and specifies an IP address for the sFlow agent or updates the IP address of the existing sFlow agent.

The undo sflow agent command deletes the IP address of an sFlow agent.

By default, an sFlow agent uses the IP address of the outbound interface in the route to the sFlow collector as the sFlow agent IP address of sFlow packets.

NOTE:

When a CE6810LI functions as an sFlow agent, the sFlow agent cannot select the IP address of the outbound interface of the route to the Collector as its own IP address. To set this IP address as the sFlow agent's IP address, you must manually configure it. If you do not manually configure it, the Agent IP field will be incorrect.

Usage Guidelines

sFlow is a traffic monitoring technique that collects and analyzes traffic statistics. An sFlow agent encapsulates traffic statistics into sFlow packets and sends the sFlow packets to specified sFlow collectors. The sFlow collector analyzes and displays the traffic statistics based on the traffic in the received sFlow packets.

The IP address of an sFlow agent is contained in the data field of sFlow packets, and uniquely identifies an sFlow agent. It is recommended that you configure the IP address of an sFlow agent manually.

Function

The sflow collector command creates an sFlow collector and sets or modifies optional parameters for the sFlow collector.

The undo sflow collector command restores default values of optional parameters of the sFlow collector or deletes the sFlow collector.

By default, no sFlow collector is configured.

udp-port udp-port-number

Specifies the UDP destination port number of sFlow packets.

The value is an integer that ranges from 1 to 65535. The default value is 6343.

description description

Specifies the description of an sFlow collector.

The value is a string of 1 to 255 case-sensitive characters without spaces. When double quotation marks are used around the string, spaces are allowed in the string.

Usage scenario

sFlow is a traffic monitoring technique that collects and analyzes traffic statistics. An sFlow agent encapsulates traffic statistics into sFlow packets and sends the sFlow packets to all sFlow collectors. To send the sFlow packets to a certain sFlow collector, configure an sFlow collector used to receive sFlow packets and analyze traffic of sFlow packets. When both flow sampling and counter sampling are configured on an interface of an sFlow agent, the sFlow agent sends the flow sampling data and counter sampling data to one or two sFlow collectors. Because sFlow packets are sampled quickly and the number of sFlow packets sent every second is limited, run the sflow collector command with length specified to set the maximum length of sFlow packets so that an sFlow packet carries more sampled data. This reduces the number of sent sFlow packets.

Precautions

A maximum of two sFlow collectors can be configured in the system.

Usage Scenario

Counter sampling is based on time. The switch periodically collects CPU utilization and traffic statistics on an interface, encapsulates the traffic statistics into sFlow packets, and sends them to an sFlow collector. The sampling frequency of Counter can be set by specifying the interval value.

Prerequisites

A collector has been created using the sflow collector command.

Precautions

  • The collector-id parameter must be specified for the sflow counter command; otherwise, the Counter sampling function does not take effect.

  • sFlow cannot be configured on both an Eth-Trunk and its member interfaces, or on both the Layer 2 sub-interface and member interface of an Eth-Trunk.

Usage Scenario

By default, the sFlow packets sent by a switch carry routing information. The switch collects routing information together with sFlow sampling, and encapsulates routing information into sFlow packets. This will increase the CPU usage of the switch. When a network carries heavy traffic or runs many services, the switch performance may be degraded.

After the sflow export extended-route-data disable command is executed, the switch performance is improved. If the routing information is not required, run this command.

sflow sampling

Function

The sflow sampling command configures flow sampling on interfaces.

The undo sflow sampling command cancels flow sampling on interfaces.

By default, flow sampling is not configured on interfaces.

collector { collector-id } Specifies the ID of the collector that performs flow sampling. The value is 1 or 2.
NOTE:

The value of collector-id must be the same as the collector ID set in sflow collector.

rate rate Specifies the denominator of the flow sampling rate. That is, the actual sampling rate is 1/rate.
NOTE:

This parameter is not supported on the Layer 2 sub-interfaces of CE switches, except CE6870EI. If a flow sampling rate is configured on a main interface, the Layer 2 sub-interface of this main interface uses this value as its own sampling rate. Otherwise, the Layer 2 sub-interface uses the default sampling rate 8192.

The value is an integer that ranges from 4096 to 4294967295. The default value is 8192.

NOTE:

The Flow sampling rate is a power of 2.

length length Indicates the maximum length of a packet sampled in flow sampling. The value is an integer that ranges from 18 to 512. The unit is byte. The default value is 128.
length head-only Indicates that only the packet headers are sampled in flow sampling.

Enables flow sampling in the inbound direction.

This parameter is not supported on the Layer 2 sub-interfaces of CE switches, except CE6870EI.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

In flow sampling, sFlow agent samples network traffic based on a certain sampling direction and rate. After sampling packets, the sFlow agent parses the packets, encapsulates the parsing result into sFlow packets, and sends the sFlow packets to the specified sFlow collector. To sample more packets, set rate to a small value. To obtain detailed information about a single packet, set length to a large value. To parse the header of a single packet, set length to head-only.

Prerequisites

An sFlow collector has been created using the sflow collector command.

Precautions

  • The collector-id parameter and interface traffic sampling direction must be specified in the sflow sampling command. Otherwise, flow sampling cannot take effect.

  • The flow sampling configured on an interface does not sample the protocol packets sent to the CPU.

  • sFlow cannot be configured on both an Eth-Trunk and its member interfaces, or on both the Layer 2 sub-interface and member interface of an Eth-Trunk.

  • The switch sends sampled packets to the CPU for processing. When the CPU usage of the switch exceeds 65%, the switch decreases the CAR value of sampled packets sent to the CPU to 1000 pps. As a result, sampled packets to be sent to the CPU are discarded, decreasing the Flow sampling rate. When the CPU usage falls below 65%, the switch increases the CAR value of sampled packets by 500 pps every 20 seconds until the CAR value is restored to the original setting.

The sflow sampling local-host command configures a device to sample the packets sent to the CPU.

The undo sflow sampling local-host command disables a device from sampling the packets sent to the CPU.

By default, a device does not sample the packets sent to the CPU.

Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

After the sflow sampling local-host packet-type arp inbound command is executed, the device samples the ARP packets sent to the CPU, encapsulates the ARP packets into sFlow packets, and sends the packets to the sFlow Collector. The sFlow Collector checks whether the network has a loop based on the sFlow packets. Different sFlow Collectors use different conditions. Look up the details in sFlow Collector's manual. For example, when an Agile Controller-DCN detects repeated ARP packets, it considers that a loop occurs.

Prerequisites

The inbound flow sampling has been configured using the sflow sampling command; otherwise, the function does not take effect.

Precautions

  • When sampling the ARP packets sent to the CPU, the device uses the sampling rate set in sflow sampling local-host, instead of the flow sampling rate set in sflow sampling on an interface.

  • The flow sampling configured on an interface does not sample the protocol packets sent to the CPU.

  • When sampling the ARP packets sent to the CPU, the device samples the ARP packets limited by CPCAR.

Function

The sflow source command configures the source IP address for sFlow packets.

The undo sflow source command restores the default setting.

By default, an sFlow agent uses the IP address of the outbound interface in the route destined for the sFlow collector as the source IP address of sFlow packets.

Usage Guidelines

When you need to specify the source of sFlow packets, use the sflow source command.

When the number of routing entries exceeds the maximum specification, the switch cannot obtain the source IP addresses of sFlow packets.
