Overview of Re-marking

Modular QoS Command-Line Interface (MQC) can be used to implement re-marking.

Re-marking technology sets the packet priority field or flag bit to re-define the packet priority. For example, re-marking technology re-marks 802.1p priorities in VLAN packets. Then the switch schedules or forwards VLAN packets based on original priorities and the next-hop device schedules and transmits the VLAN packets based on the re-marked 802.1p priorities.

This document describes how to use MQC to implement re-marking. Re-marking allows the device to re-mark packets matching traffic classification rules. The packets that require a short delay and high service quality can be re-marked with a high priority so that the packets can be preferentially scheduled or forwarded. Similarly, the priority of packets that have no special requirements on the delay or service quality can be reduced so that the device provides sufficient network resources for high-priority packets.
