Configuring a VRRP6 Group and Binding It to an mVRRP6 Group

Context

You can bind VRRP6 groups to an mVRRP6 group so that mVRRP6 determines the status of the bound VRRP6 groups.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The view of the interface where a VRRP6 group is configured is displayed.

  3. On an Ethernet interface, run undo portswitch

    The interface is switched to Layer 3 mode.

    By default, an Ethernet interface works in Layer 2 mode.

    The mode switching function takes effect when the interface only has attribute configurations (for example, shutdown and description configurations). Alternatively, if configuration information supported by both Layer 2 and Layer 3 interfaces exists (for example, mode lacp and lacp system-id configurations), no configuration that is not supported after the working mode of the interface is switched can exist. If unsupported configurations exist on the interface, delete the configurations first and then run the undo portswitch command.

    NOTE:

    If many Ethernet interfaces need to be switched to Layer 3 mode, run the undo portswitch batch interface-type { interface-number1 [ to interface-number2 ] } &<1-10> command in the system view to switch these interfaces to Layer 3 mode in batches.

  4. Run vrrp6 vrid virtual-router-id virtual-ip virtual-ipv6-address [ link-local ]

    A VRRP6 group is created, and a virtual IPv6 address is assigned to the VRRP6 group.

    By default, no VRRP6 group is created.

    Because the mVRRP6 group determines the status of its member VRRP6 groups, you do not need to set priorities for the member VRRP6 groups.

  5. Run vrrp6 vrid virtual-router-id1 track admin-vrrp interface interface-type interface-number vrid virtual-router-id2 [ unflowdown ]

    The VRRP6 group is bound to an mVRRP6 group.

    By default, no VRRP6 group is bound to an mVRRP6 group.

    After the binding is complete, the state machine of the bound VRRP6 group depends on the status of the mVRRP6 group. That is, the bound VRRP6 group inherits the status of the mVRRP6 group, deletes its VRRP6 Advertisement packet timeout timer, and stops sending or receiving VRRP6 Advertisement packets. A VRRP6 group can be bound to only one mVRRP6 group.

    NOTE:
    Only one mVRRP6 group can be configured on an interface.

  6. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
