Licensing Requirements and Limitations for Smart Link and Monitor Link

Licensing Requirements and Limitations for Smart Link and Monitor Link

Involved Network Elements

Other network elements must also support Smart Link and Monitor Link functions.

Licensing Requirements

Smart Link and Monitor Link are basic features of a Huawei switch and are not under license control.

Version Requirements

Minimum Version Required

Feature Limitations

  • An interface cannot be added to a Smart Link group in the following situations:
    • STP is running on the interface.
    • The interface has been added to a Monitor Link group.
    • The interface has been added to another Smart Link group.
  • After the device has been enabled to send Flush packets, member interfaces of a Smart Link group cannot be added to the control VLAN. You must configure the member interfaces to allow the control VLAN.

  • STP must be disabled on the remote interface of the Smart Link group.

  • If interfaces are not configured to send and receive Flush packets, a Smart Link group uses the aging mechanism to update MAC address entries and ARP entries, causing slow convergence. Ensure fast convergence by configuring the device to send and receive Flush packets when a Smart Link group is configured.

  • You must enable revertive switching of Smart Link before you enable Smart Link. If Smart Link is already enabled, revertive switching can be configured only after Smart Link has been disabled.

  • When uplink ports go Down, the Monitor Link configuration is deleted. Downlink ports cannot go Up after they have been set to Error-Down state. Run the shutdown and undo shutdown commands on the downlink ports to manually make them go Up.
