Configuring the BFD Detection Time

Context

During the establishment of a BFD session, you can configure the interval for transmitting BFD packets, interval for receiving BFD packets, and local detection multiplier according to the network situation and performance requirements.

To reduce usage of system resources, when detecting that a BFD session goes Down, the system adjusts the intervals for transmitting and receiving BFD packets to random values greater than 1000 ms. When the BFD session goes Up, the configured intervals are restored.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run bfd session-name

    The BFD session view is displayed.

  3. Run min-tx-interval interval

    The interval for transmitting BFD packets is set.

    By default, the interval for transmitting BFD packets is 1000 ms.

  4. Run min-rx-interval interval

    The interval for receiving BFD packets is set.

    By default, the interval for receiving BFD packets is 1000 ms.

  5. Run detect-multiplier multiplier

    The local detection multiplier is set.

    By default, the local detection multiplier is 3.

    NOTE:

    It is recommended that the default values of the intervals for transmitting and receiving BFD packets and the local detection multiplier be used.

    When connecting the BFD-enabled switch to a transmission device, you are advised to run the port-status fast-detect enable command to enable the chip to rapidly detect the physical status change of a physical interface. In addition, the BFD detection interval of 500 ms*4, 1000 ms*3, or a larger value should be used.

  6. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
