Configuring EEE

Context

You can configure Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) on electrical interfaces to dynamically adjust the power of electrical interfaces according to network traffic for energy saving. A device provides power for each interface. Even when an interface is idle, it consumes the same power as working interfaces, wasting power. After the EEE function is configured on an electrical interface, the system reduces the power on the interface when the interface is idle and restores the power only when the interface starts to transmit data. This reduces power consumption in the system.

NOTE:

Only electrical interfaces except management ports support the EEE function. A 10GE optical interface does not support the EEE function even if an SFP-GE electrical module is inserted.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  3. Run eee enable

    EEE function is enabled on the electrical interface.

    By default, the EEE function is disabled on an electrical interface.

    NOTE:

    The EEE function takes effect only when it is configured on both ends of a link.

  4. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
