Switch Functioning as a DHCPv6 Relay Agent

Switch Functioning as a DHCPv6 Relay Agent

Figure 8-16 shows a typical networking of the DHCPv6 relay agent.

Figure 8-16  Networking of the DHCPv6 relay agent

The device functions as a DHCPv6 relay agent, the client can communicate with a DHCPv6 server on another network segment through the DHCPv6 relay agent, and obtain an IPv6 address and other configuration parameters from the global address pool on the DHCP server. In this manner, DHCPv6 clients on multiple network segments can share one DHCPv6 server. This reduces costs and facilitates centralized management.
