Configuring VLANs for the MZ520 in the OS
The MZ520 allows tagged and untagged packets to pass through. You can set the VLAN ID in the OS or keep packets untagged.
The MZ520 supports a maximum of 4094 VLANs, and each physical 10GE port supports a maximum of 4094 VLANs. When NPAR is enabled, each PF supports 4094 VLANs. The VLAN IDs are integers ranging from 1 to 4094.
The MZ520 transparently transmits packets. It identifies packets based on their VLAN IDs and checks the maximum number of VLANs, but does not process their VLAN tags. The MZ520 does not add tags to or delete tags from packets sent from MZ520 ports and only transparently transmits the packets. The VLAN IDs are specified by the OS or hypervisor. The MZ520 does not add tags to or delete tags from packets received by MZ520 ports and only transparently transmits the packets to the OS or hypervisor.
The following describes how to configure VLANs in RHEL 7.2, Windows Server 2012 R2, and VMware ESXi 6.0 as an example.
