Configuring the Active-Backup Bonding Mode on the MZ522
For details about port bonding, see NIC team configuration in Configuring Port Bonding for the MZ522. The following lists the configuration on each MZ522:
MZ522 (1):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 and Port 1 of Controller 0 in active-backup mode.
The IP address of the NIC team is 192.168.10.10/24 and belongs to VLAN 10.
MZ522 (2):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 and Port 1 of Controller 0 in active-backup mode.
The IP address of the NIC team is 192.168.20.10/24 and belongs to VLAN 20.
MZ522 (3):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 and Port 1 of Controller 0 in active-backup mode.
The IP address of the NIC team is 192.168.10.30/24 and belongs to VLAN 10.
MZ522 (4):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 and Port 1 of Controller 0 in active-backup mode.
The IP address of the NIC team is 192.168.20.40/24 and belongs to VLAN 20.
By default, Port 0 on Controller 0 of each MZ522 is in the active state, and Port 1 is in the backup state.
Set the mode of the CX320 port connected to the MZ522 to access, and specify a VLAN ID for the port. Set the mode of the CX320 interconnection port to trunk, and add all VLANs used by the MZ522. The configuration is as follows:
CX320(1):
[HUAWEI]vlan 10 [HUAWEI-vlan10]port 10GE 2/1/1 [HUAWEI]vlan 20 [HUAWEI-vlan20]port 10GE 2/2/1 [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/1/1 [HUAWEI-10GE2/1/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/2/1 [HUAWEI-10GE2/2/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/17/1 [HUAWEI-10GE2/17/1]port link-type trunk [HUAWEI-10GE2/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 10 [HUAWEI-10GE2/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 20
CX320(2):
[HUAWEI]vlan 10 [HUAWEI-vlan10]port 10GE 3/1/1 [HUAWEI]vlan 20 [HUAWEI-vlan20]port 10GE 3/2/1 [HUAWEI]interface 10GE3/1/1 [HUAWEI-10GE3/1/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE3/2/1 [HUAWEI-10GE3/2/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/17/1 [HUAWEI-10GE3/17/1]port link-type trunk [HUAWEI-10GE3/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 10 [HUAWEI-10GE3/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 20
In active-backup mode, MZ522 (1) monitors only the status of its directly connected link. For example, Controller 0 on MZ522 (1) monitors only links 1-1 and 1-2. However, the MZ522 cannot monitor the CX320 uplinks. For example, the MZ522 cannot monitor link 1/3. If link 1-1 is disconnected, Controller 0 on MZ522 (1) switches to link 1-2 connected to its Port 1 to transmit traffic to Controller 0 on MZ522 (3), that is, the CX320 (2) link 1-2<->2/4<->3-2 is used. The communication between Controller 0 on MZ522 (1) and Controller 0 on MZ522 (3) can be retained (through a failover). If link 1/3 is disconnected, Controller 0 on MZ522 (1) cannot detect the failure, and it still uses link 1-1 to transmit traffic to Controller 0 on MZ522 (3), which will cause communication interrupts.
To ensure end-to-end link protection, you need to configure the monitor link on the CX320s, and add the uplinks (interconnections between the CX320s) and downlinks (connections to the MZ522s) to the monitor link group. The configuration is as follows:
CX320(1):
[HUAWEI]monitor-link group 1 [HUAWEI-mtlk-group1]port 10GE 2/17/1 uplink [HUAWEI-mtlk-group1]port 10GE 2/1/1 downlink 1 [HUAWEI-mtlk-group1]port 10GE 2/2/1 downlink 2
CX320(2):
[HUAWEI]monitor-link group 1 [HUAWEI-mtlk-group1]port 10GE 3/17/1 uplink [HUAWEI-mtlk-group1]port 10GE 3/1/1 downlink 1 [HUAWEI-mtlk-group1]port 10GE 3/2/1 downlink 2
CX320 (3) has similar configuration to CX320 (1), and CX320 (4) has similar configuration to CX320 (2).
After the monitor link is configured, if link 1/3 is disconnected, CX320 (1) shuts down Port 10GE2/1/1 connected to Controller 0 on MZ522 (1), and Controller 0 on MZ522 (1) switches to Port 1 for transmitting traffic to Controller 0 on MZ522 (3) over the CX320 (2) channel. Similarly, CX320 (1) shuts down Port 10GE2/2/1 connected to Controller 0 on MZ522 (2), and Controller 0 on MZ522 (2) also switches to Port 1 for transmitting traffic to Controller 0 on MZ522 (4).
To ensure reliability, you can also use the cross-chip bonding mode. The following lists the configuration on each MZ522:
MZ522 (1):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 of Controller 0 and Port 1 of Controller 1 in active-backup mode.
The IP address of the NIC team is 192.168.10.10/24 and belongs to VLAN 10.
MZ522 (2):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 of Controller 0 and Port 1 of Controller 1 in active-backup mode.
The IP address of the NIC team is 192.168.20.10/24 and belongs to VLAN 20.
MZ522 (3):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 of Controller 0 and Port 1 of Controller 1 in active-backup mode.
The IP address of the NIC team is 192.168.10.30/24 and belongs to VLAN 10.
MZ522 (4):
Configure NIC teaming for Port 0 of Controller 0 and Port 1 of Controller 1 in active-backup mode.
CX320(1):
[HUAWEI]vlan 10 [HUAWEI-vlan10]port 10GE 2/1/1 [HUAWEI]vlan 20 [HUAWEI-vlan20]port 10GE 2/2/1 [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/1/1 [HUAWEI-10GE2/1/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/2/1 [HUAWEI-10GE2/2/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/17/1 [HUAWEI-10GE2/17/1]port link-type trunk [HUAWEI-10GE2/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 10 [HUAWEI-10GE2/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 20
CX320(2):
[HUAWEI]vlan 10 [HUAWEI-vlan10]port 10GE 3/2/1 [HUAWEI]vlan 20 [HUAWEI-vlan20]port 10GE 3/1/1 [HUAWEI]interface 10GE3/1/1 [HUAWEI-10GE3/1/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE3/2/1 [HUAWEI-10GE3/2/1]port link-type access [HUAWEI]interface 10GE2/17/1 [HUAWEI-10GE3/17/1]port link-type trunk [HUAWEI-10GE3/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 10 [HUAWEI-10GE3/17/1]port trunk allow-pass vlan 20
CX320 (3) has similar configuration to CX320 (1), and CX320 (4) has similar configuration to CX320 (2).
After the configuration, Controller 0 on MZ522 (1) can communicate with Controller 0 on MZ522 (3), and traffic is transmitted through the primary channel: 1-1<->1/3<->3-1; Controller 0 on MZ522 (2) can communicate with Controller 0 on MZ522 (4), and traffic is transmitted through the primary channel: 2-1<->1/3<->4-1.
If link 1-1 is disconnected, Controller 0 on MZ522 (1) switches to link 1-4 connected to its Port 1 to transmit traffic to Controller 1 on MZ522 (3), that is, the CX320 (2) link 1-4<->2/4<->3-4 is used. The communication between MZ522 (1) and MZ522 (3) can be retained (failover).
