Upgrading the MZ620 Firmware

The following describes how to upgrade the MZ620 firmware in Linux. (The upgrade method also applies to other OSs.)

Use the Mellanox Firmware Tool (MFT) to upgrade the MZ620 firmware in Linux.

The MZ620 firmware file is a .bin file, for example, MZ620-FW-V12_14_2036.bin.

Check the MZ620 firmware version.

To upgrade the MZ620 firmware using the flint command, perform the following steps:

  1. Install the firmware upgrade tool.

    1. Use WinSCP to upload MLNX_OFED_LINUX-[driver version]-rhel6.6-x86_64.tgz to the server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.6 64-Bit.
    2. Run the following command to decompress the driver package:

      tar -zxf MLNX_OFED_LINUX-[driver version]-[os version]-x86_64.tgz

    3. Go to the directory generated after the decompression, and run the ./mlnxofedinstall command to install the firmware upgrade tool.
      NOTE:
      • If the driver package has been installed, skip 1.
      • In this section, WinSCP is used as the file transfer tool. You can use other tools based on the actual situation.
      • During the installation, the system may display an error message, indicating the lack of some libraries such as tcl, tk, tcl-devel, tk-devel, libnl-devel, and libgfortran43. To resolve the problem, find out these missing libraries by mounting the system .iso file, and install these libraries.

  2. Run MST in Linux to view the HCA device name.

    1. Run mst start to start the MST service.
    2. Run mst status to query the HCA device name .

  3. Upgrade the firmware. Run the following command:

    flint -d /dev/mst/mt4115_pciconfX(Device name) -i fw.bin(firmware file in binary mode) b[urn]

    The following is an example:

    NOTE:

    If a message indicating unmatched PSIDs is displayed during the upgrade (for example, -E- PSID mismatch. The PSID on flash (HUA2010110032) differs from the PSID in the given image (HUA1010110032)), ensure that the firmware file matches the HCA, and then contact Huawei support.

  4. After the upgrade, run the reboot command to restart the OS for the upgrade to take effect.
  5. After the OS restarts,run the following command to start the mst service:

    mst start

  6. Run the following command to view the firmware version:

    flint -d /dev/mst/mt4115_pciconfX q
