Configuring Association Between Interface Backup in Active/Standby Mode and NQA

Configuring Association Between Interface Backup in Active/Standby Mode and NQA

Applicable Environment

The NQA technology measures network performance and collects statistics on the response time, jitter, and packet loss ratio. As shown in Figure 2-8, you only need to configure an NQA test instance on RouterA and configure association between interface backup and NQA. This function enables RouterA to detect connectivity of the primary link in real time and switch services immediately if the primary link becomes faulty. When the NQA test instance detects that the primary link is working properly, the primary link transmits services. When the NQA test instance detects that the primary link is unreachable or link quality is low, it requests RouterA to start Interface2 to transmit service traffic. When the NQA test instance detects that the primary link is restored, RouterA switches services back to the primary link.

Figure 2-8  Networking diagram of association between interface backup and NQA
NOTE:

This figure assumes that the primary and backup links use static routes. When the primary link is faulty, data traffic will be lost because routes cannot be switched immediately. To speed up data traffic switching, set the priority of the backup link to be higher than that of the primary link or configure NQA for static routes. When the NQA test instance detects that the route on the primary link is unreachable, it deletes the static route corresponding to the primary link from the routing table. For details, see Associating IPv4 Static Routes with NQA.

Pre-Configuration Tasks

Before configuring association between interface backup and NQA, complete the following tasks:

  • Configuring routing protocols on the primary link and backup link to ensure connectivity at the network layer

  • Configuring an NQA test instance of ICMP on RouterA to detect connectivity of the primary link. For details, see Configuring an ICMP Test Instance.

    NOTE:
The NAQ test instance must be ICMP.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. (Optional) Run ip route-static ip-address { mask | mask-length } { nexthop-address | interface-type interface-number [ nexthop-address ] } [ preference preference | tag tag ] * track nqa admin-name test-name [ description text ]

Association between the IPv4 static route of the primary link and an NQA test instance is configured or route priorities of the primary and backup links are set.

    NOTE:
    • If the primary and backup links use dynamic routes, skip 2.

    • If the primary and backup links use static routes, perform 2 to configure association between the IPv4 static route of the primary link and an NQA test instance or set the route priority of the backup link to be higher than that of the primary link.

  3. Run interface interface-type interface-number

The backup interface view is displayed.

  4. Run standby track nqa admin-name test-name

Association between interface backup and NQA is configured.

    NOTE:
A backup interface can associate with only one NQA test instance, while an NQA test instance can associate with multiple backup interfaces.

Checking the Configuration

After the configuration is complete, run the display standby state command to check the status of the NQA test instance and the backup interface.
