Overview of Interface Backup

Overview of Interface Backup

This section describes the definition and purpose of interface backup.

The interface backup feature enables an interface of a device to function as a backup for another interface. When an interface is faulty or bandwidth is insufficient, the interface backup function allows traffic to be switched to a backup interface. The backup interface then transmits service traffic or loads balance service traffic.

When a router interface is faulty or bandwidth is insufficient, services will be interrupted or data will be lost. The interface backup technology allows a backup interface to transmit or load balance service traffic when the primary interface is faulty. This improves communication reliability.
