When the AR is used as the enterprise access device, it can connect to PE1 through a Layer 2 link and to PE2 remotely. The AR provides VLAN-based Y.1731 performance monitoring, including two-way delay measurement and single-ended SLM.

In Figure 10-6, create MDs and MAs on PE1 and PE2. After Y.1731 performance monitoring is configured between PE1 and PE2, PE1 and PE2 send SL frames and single-ended SLM is performed based on the counter value in packets. PE1 and PE2 exchange DM frames, so the bidirectional delay can be counted based on the interval of packets. Then the delay variation can be counted based on the delay.
