Networking Requirements

As shown in Figure 6-23, RouterA is directly connected to RouterB through a Layer 3 physical link. Faults on the link between RouterA and RouterB need to be fast detected.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:

Configure BFD sessions on RouterA and RouterB to detect faults on the link between them.

Procedure

  1. Set IP addresses of the directly connected interfaces on RouterA and RouterB.

    # Assign an IP address to the interface of RouterA.

  2. Configure single-hop BFD.

    # Enable BFD on RouterA and set up the BFD session between RouterA and RouterB. Bind the BFD session to an interface.

    # Enable BFD on RouterB and set up the BFD session between Router A and RouterB. Bind the BFD session to an interface.

  3. Verify the configuration.

    # After the configuration is complete, run the display bfd session all verbose command on RouterA and RouterB. You can see that a single-hop BFD session is set up and its status is Up.
