Replacing the Left/Right Mounting Ear

Replacing the Left/Right Mounting Ear

Procedures for replacing left and right mounting ears are the same. This section uses replacing the left mounting ear as an example.

Impact on the System

  • Before replacing the left/right mounting ear, you must power off the storage node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

Prerequisites

  • The replacement left/right mounting ear is ready.
  • You have recorded the cable mapping of the device, securely stopped the services, executed a shut-down command in the operating system to power off the storage node, and disconnected the node from power sockets and peripheral devices.

Tools and Materials

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Use the KVM to log in to the operating system of the node, enter user name root and its password (default: Root@storage), and run poweroff command to power off the node.

Wait until the KVM has no output. The power-off is complete.

  3. Remove all power cables and external signal cables.
  4. Remove the storage node from the enclosure.
    1. Slide the storage node out of the cabinet, as shown in step 1 in Figure 3-53.
    2. Press the baffle plate and slide the storage node out of enclosure, as shown in step 2 in Figure 3-53.

  5. Remove the enclosure cover.
    1. Use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the latch that secures the ejector lever of the enclosure cover, as shown in step 1 in Figure 3-54.
    2. Open the ejector lever to push the enclosure cover backwards, as shown in step 2 in Figure 3-54.

  6. Optional: Remove the riser card tray. For details, see 6 in Replacing a Riser Card.

    NOTE:

If the configured riser card is with full height and full length, remove the riser card tray first.

  7. Take out the air duct, as shown in Figure 3-55.

  8. Remove all fan modules. For details, see 6 in Replacing a Fan Module.
  9. Press and hold down the latches on both sides of a fan module bracket, and lift the bracket. Use the same method to lift the other fan module bracket. See steps (1) and (2) in Figure 3-56.

  10. Remove the left mounting ear.
    1. Remove the mounting ear signal cable in the arrow direction. See step (1) in Figure 3-57.

    2. Loosen the screws on the left mounting ear. See step (2) in Figure 3-57.
    3. Remove the left mounting ear in the arrow direction and slowly pull the mounting ear signal cable out of the chassis along the chassis interior surface. See step (3) in Figure 3-57.
  11. Place the removed left mounting ear in an ESD bag.
  12. Take the spare left mounting ear out of its ESD bag.
  13. Install the left mounting ear.
    1. Route the mounting ear signal cable through the chassis in the arrow direction. See step (1) in Figure 3-58.

    2. Connect the mounting ear signal cable to the left mounting ear connector (J42) on the mainboard. See step (2) in Figure 3-58.
    3. Install the mounting ear in the arrow direction. See step (3) in Figure 3-58.
    4. Tighten the screws on the left mounting ear. See step (4) in Figure 3-58.
  14. Install the fan module brackets in the chassis. See Figure 3-59.

  15. Install the fan modules. For details, see 9 in Replacing a Fan Module.
  16. Align the positioning pins on the air duct with the fixing holes on the mainboard by following the instructions on the enclosure, and vertically place the air duct downwards, as shown in Figure 3-60.

  17. Optional: Install the riser card tray. For details, see 12 in Replacing a Riser Card.

    NOTE:

If the configured riser card is with full height and full length, install the riser card tray.

  18. Install the enclosure cover.
    1. Place the enclosure cover horizontally, align it with the fixing slots on both side panels of the enclosure, and close the ejector lever, as shown in steps 1 and 2 in Figure 3-61.
    2. Use a flat-head screwdriver to tighten the latch in order to secure the ejector lever of the enclosure cover, as shown in step 3 in Figure 3-61.

  19. Put the storage node into the cabinet.
    1. Align the securing holes in the inner rails with the positioning pins on the storage node, and secure the inner rails to the storage node, as shown in step 1 in Figure 3-62.
    2. Align the inner rails with the holding rails, and push the storage node into the holding rails, as shown in step 2 in Figure 3-62.
    3. Ensure that the storage node is horizontally installed and screwed.

  20. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Then power on the storage node.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the left mounting ear, label the replaced left mounting ear to facilitate subsequent operations.
