Expanding Capacity of a Storage Pool

Scenarios

Add disks or servers to a storage pool on FusionStorage Block Self-Maintenance Platform to expand capacity of the storage pool, thereby meeting service requirements.

Figure 6-1 shows the capacity expansion process of the FusionStorage storage pool.

This topic describes how to perform Capacity Expansion on the FusionStorage Block Self-Maintenance Platform. For details about capacity expansion preparations and implementation, see FusionStorage Block Storage Service Capacity Adjustment Guide.

Prerequisites

  • You have installed the hardware to be expanded and network devices, and connected network devices based on the network plan.
  • All nodes can communicate over the storage network.
  • The FusionStorage storage pool and disks are running properly.
  • You have logged in to the FusionStorage Block Self-Maintenance Platform.

Procedure

    1. On FusionStorage Block Self-Maintenance Platform, choose Resource Pool > Storage Pools.

      The Storage Pools page is displayed.

    2. Click Capacity Expansion.

      The Capacity Expansion page is displayed, as shown in Figure 6-2.

    3. Perform operations based on the storage resources to be added.

      • To add storage servers, go to 4.
      • To add disks, go to 10.

    4. Select Add Storage Server.
    5. Click Add Server.

      A dialog box is displayed.

    6. In Main Storage Type and Cache Type areas, configure main storage and cache information for the server to be added.

      The main storage and cache types of the server must be the same as those of the storage pool. In this step, you are required to configure the slot numbers for main storage and cache resources.

      You can select main storage and cache resources in either of the following methods:
      • Batch selection: Enter the slot numbers or quantity. After the server is added, it automatically uses disks in the specified slots as the main storage or caches.
      • Manual selection: After adding the server, manually select main storage and cache resources on the server.

    7. In the server list, select the servers to be added to the storage pool.
    8. Click Yes.

      The Capacity Expansion page is displayed.

    9. Perform 13.
    10. Select Add Disk.
    11. In the Main Storage Type and Cache Type areas, configure main storage and cache resources to be added on the server.

      You can select main storage and cache resources in either of the following methods:
      • Batch selection: Enter the slot numbers or quantity. The server automatically uses disks in the specified slots as the main storage or caches.
      • Manual selection: Manually select main storage and cache resources on the server.

    12. In the server list, click on the left of the server to query or set the main storage or cache resources to be added.
    13. Click Expand.

      The Storage Pools page is displayed. The capacity of the FusionStorage storage pool is successfully expanded.
