Failed to Configure the NTP Service

Symptom

When a user configures the Network Time Protocol (NTP) service for FusionStorage Agent (FSA) nodes, the configuration fails, and a message is displayed indicating that NTP configuration timed out.

Possible Causes

This issue is caused by the system defect of the SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 OS or later. For details, see https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7015867.

Fault Diagnosis

None

Procedure

    1. Obtain the password for logging in to the failed server and use PuTTY to log in to the server.
    2. Run the following command and enter the password of user root to switch to user root:

      su - root

    3. Run the following command to query the OS version:

      lsb_release -a

    4. Check whether the OS version is SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 or later.

    5. Run the following command to rectify faults:

      logprof

      This command is provided by the OS for automatically rectifying known OS defects.

      • If information similar to the following is displayed, press A to allow the OS to automatically rectify faults.
        ......
        (A)llow / [(D)eny] / (G)lob / Glob w/(E)xt / (N)ew / Abo(r)t / (F)inish / (O)pts
      • If information similar to the following is displayed, all rectification operations are complete. Press S to save the changes.
        ......
        (S)ave Changes / [(V)iew Changes] / Abo(r)t

    6. Run the following command to restart the NTP process:

      service ntpd restart

    7. Check whether an error message similar to the following is displayed during the restart process:

      Job for ntpd.service failed. See "systemctl status ntpd.service" and "journalctl -xn" for details.
