A User Fails to Establish a Netconf Session

This section describes the step-by-step troubleshooting procedure for the fault when the user fails to establish a Netconf session.

Common Causes

This fault is commonly caused by one of the following:

  • client and server fail to exchange hello messages.
  • client sends an invalid hello message.

Troubleshooting Flowchart

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. Check the SSH connection.

Run the display ssh server status command to check whether the SSH connection is successful.

    <HUAWEI> display ssh server status
    SSH Version : 1.99
SSH authentication timeout (Seconds) : 60
SSH authentication retries (Times) : 3
SSH server key generating interval (Hours) : 0
SSH version 1.x compatibility : Enable
    SSH server keepalive : Disable
    SFTP server : Disable
    STELNET server : Disable
    SNETCONF server : Enable
    SNETCONF server port(830) : Disable
    SCP server : Enable
    SSH server DES : Disable
    SSH server port : 22
    ACL name :
    ACL number :
    ACL6 name :
ACL6 number :SSH server source address :

If SNETCONF server is displayed as Disable in the command output, the SSH connection fails. For details about how to troubleshoot the failure, see the chapter "SSH Troubleshooting" in the document. If SNETCONF server is displayed as Enable in the command output, go to Step 2.

  2. Check whether client and server can exchange hello packets.

Run the display netconf session command and check whether the NETCONF session is established successfully. If the session is established successfully, hello packets are successfully exchanged between the client and server, go to Step 3.

    <HUAWEI> display netconf session
    NETCONF Session ID : 303
    Transport : netconf-ssh
    User Name : root1234
    Host Identifier :
    Login Time : 2017-06-30 03:57:46
    Input Rpc : 0
    Input Bad Rpc : 0
    Output Rpc Error : 0
    Output Notification : 0

  3. Collect the following information and contact technical support personnel.

    • Results of the preceding troubleshooting procedure.
    • Configuration files, log files, and alarm files of the devices.

  4. End
