This document provides the maintenance guide of the device, including daily maintenance, emergence maintenance, and typical troubleshooting.

Guide to Restarting a Device

This section guides you how to restart a device when a fault on the device causes services to be interrupted and the device fails to restart automatically.

  • Restart the ME60 with caution. If it is required to restart the ME60, go over the principles and precautions described in Chapter 1, or perform the restart operation under the guidance of Huawei technical personnel.
  • Before the ME60 is successfully restarted, all services on the ME60 are interrupted unless the dual-system hot backup networking is adopted.

When a critical fault occurs on the ME60 during the equipment running, the ME60 is automatically restarted. After the restart, the ME60 runs normally. The ME60 needs to be restarted manually only in emergency or exception, for example, services are interrupted because of the fault occurred on the ME60, and the ME60 fails to automatically restart or recover by using other methods.

Preparations for the Restart

This section describes the preparations for the restart of the ME60.

Before restarting the ME60, confirm whether configuration files of the ME60 need to be backed up. Configuration files should be backed up and executed automatically after the restart. In this case, services can be automatically resumed.

For the backup and restoration of configuration files, refer to "Guide to Emergency Maintenance" in the Chapter HUAWEI ME60 Multiservice Control Gateway - Routine Maintenance.

Guide to Restarting theME60

This section describes procedures and precautions of restarting the ME60.

Do not plug out and plug in the main control board to restart the device. Otherwise, the configuration will be lost.

You can restart the ME60 in any of the following methods:
  • Running the reboot command
  • Switching the system off and then on
  • Operating through the NMS
NOTE:

You are recommended not to restart the ME60 remotely. Otherwise, once the restart operation fails, services may be interrupted for a long period.

Checking Whether Configuration Files Are Correct

Run the display startup command to check whether configuration files are correct. For example:

The displayed "vrpcfg.cfg" denotes the name of the current configuration file.

Running the reboot Command

Before manually restart ME60, run the reboot command on the configuration terminal.

Enter the reboot command in the user view and press Y after the display to restart the ME60. The operation example is as follows:

NOTE:

The reboot command output varies with system versions. Take the command output of the current system version as the standard.

Switching the System Off and Then On

You can restart the device only in the following situation: when a critical fault occurs on the power supply system of the equipment room, causing the ME60 to get power off, you need to switch the ME60 off; when the power supply system of the equipment room recovers, you need to switch the ME60 on.

The ME60 cabinet can hold two AC or DC power modules, which are not intermixable. You are recommended to configure two power modules working in 1+1 backup mode on the ME60.

The switch of the power module is located on the front panel of the power module. When the switch is placed at the OFF position, the power module is turned off; when the switch is placed at the ON position, the power module is turned on.

When the two power modules on the ME60 work in backup mode, you need switch both the power modules off to turn off the power module and switch both the power modules on to turn on the power module.

Operating Through the NMS

Operation for restarting ME60 differ from different type of NMS. For details, refer to the NMS Online Help.

Verification After the Restart

This section describes how to verify the device after the restart.

After the ME60 is restarted, check that the configuration data is recovered correctly and completely. The loss of configuration data will result in the service interruption and you are therefore required to manually add the configuration data and save it.

Verifying the Restart Information
If you log in to the ME60 through the console interface and restart the ME60 by running the reboot command, the display on the configuration terminal after the restart is as follows:

Checking Whether the Software Version Is Correct

Run the display version command to check whether the software version is correct. For example:

Solution to the Restart Failure

This section describes how to handle the failure in the restart of the ME60.

If the system fails to be upgraded, to ensure that the ME60 operates normally, you need to roll back the version. For the rollback procedures, see the Upgrade Guide.

If any problem arises during the restart of the ME60, contact the local Huawei technical support personnel.
