Configuring ACL-based Packet Filtering

Configuring ACL-based Packet Filtering

By configuring ACL-based packet filtering, the device permits or rejects packets matching ACL rules to control network traffic.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring ACL-based packet filtering, complete the following tasks:
  • Configuring link layer attributes of interfaces to ensure that the interfaces work properly

  • Configuring IP addresses and routing protocols for interfaces to ensure connectivity

  • Configuring an ACL

The AD9431DN-24X does not support ACL-based packet filtering in the VLANIF interface view.

  1. Run:

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run:

    interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  3. Run:

    traffic-filter { inbound | outbound } acl { acl-number | name acl-name }

    ACL-based packet filtering is configured.

The traffic-filter command can reference an ACL with no rule configured. You can configure a rule for the ACL after running this command.

At most eight ACL rules can be configured for packet filtering in one direction. The rules take effect in the sequence in which they are configured. To improve match efficiency, you are advised to configure an ACL rule with a high match probability for packet filtering. When configuring each ACL rule, set a small ID for the rule with a high match probability, reducing the number of times ACL rules are matched and saving resources. To change the sequence in which packets are filtered based on ACLs, delete all related configurations and reconfigure ACL-based packet filtering.

Checking the Configuration

  • Run the display traffic-filter applied-record command to check ACL-based packet filtering information.

  • Run the display traffic-filter statistics interface interface-type interface-number { inbound | outbound } command to view traffic statistics about ACL-based packet filtering on an interface.
