Configuring Cloud-based Management (CLI)

Context

After an AP is switched to a cloud AP, the AP can use the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus to register with the Agile Controller-Campus, achieving plug-and-play.

A cloud AP can use one of the following methods to switch its management mode and obtain the IP address of the Agile Controller-Campus:
  • Using a DHCP server: This method has the highest priority and is preferred if the AP can use multiple methods to obtain the IP address of the Agile Controller-Campus.
  • Using the registration center: This method has the lowest priority.
  • Through manual configuration on the CLI or web platform: The priority of this method is lower than that using a DHCP server but higher than that using the registration center.

This section describes how to configure cloud APs. For details about cloud AP deployment and service configurations, visit Huawei Enterprise Product & Service Support and search for Huawei CloudCampus Solution Product Documentation of the required version.

NOTE:

In the cloud-based management mode, the user name and password configured through serial ports, SSH, HTTP, or app are valid only before an AP registers with the Agile Controller-Campus. After the AP is registered, the Agile Controller-Campus delivers a new user name and password to the AP, which will override the ones configured in other ways. The user name and password delivered by the Agile Controller-Campus are required for the cloud AP login as long as the AP has registered with the Agile Controller-Campus.

Pre-configuration Tasks

  • ESNs of APs and CA certificates have been imported to the Agile Controller-Campus.
  • APs have been added to device groups on the Agile Controller-Campus.
  • A license has been imported to the Agile Controller-Campus and bound to APs.
  • The Option 148 field has been set on the DHCP server.
    • When a cloud AP uses the URL of the Agile Controller-Campus for registration, set the Option 148 field on the DHCP server to option 148 ascii "agilemode=agile-cloud;agilemanage-mode=domain;agilemanage-domain=domain-name;agilemanage-port=port-number;"
    • When a cloud AP uses the IP address of the Agile Controller-Campus for registration, set the Option 148 field on the DHCP server to option 148 ascii "agilemode=agile-cloud;agilemanage-mode=ip;agilemanage-domain=ip-address;agilemanage-port=port-number;"

    Specifies the working mode to which an AP is switched.

    agile-cloud indicates that an AP will be switched to a cloud AP.

    tradition-fit indicates that an AP will be switched to a Fit AP.

    tradition indicates that an AP will be switched to a Fat AP.

    NOTE:
    • When tradition-fit or tradition is specified, the entered parameter value must end with a semicolon (;).
    • When tradition-fit or tradition is specified, an AP is switched to the corresponding working mode after restart.

    agilemanage-mode

    Configures a cloud AP to use the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus for registration.

    ip indicates that a cloud AP uses the IP address of the Agile Controller-Campus for registration.

    domain indicates that a cloud AP uses the URL of the Agile Controller-Campus for registration.

    NOTE:
    This parameter is supported only by cloud APs.

    agilemanage-domain

    Specifies the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus.

    The IP address is in dotted decimal notation.

    The URL is a string of 1 to 128 case-sensitive characters. The default URL of Huawei's Agile Controller-Campus is device-naas.huawei.com.

    NOTE:
    This parameter is supported only by cloud APs.

    agilemanage-port

    Specifies the port number of the Agile Controller-Campus.

    The value is an integer that ranges from 1 to 65535. The default port number of Huawei's Agile Controller-Campus is 10020.

    NOTE:
    This parameter is supported only by cloud APs.
  • APs have been powered on and connected to the live network.
  • Network interconnection has been configured on the WAN interface.

    If the configurations are performed on the VLANIF interface of the management VLAN, these configurations will be lost after the device restarts.

Procedure

  1. Switch an AP to a cloud AP.

    Switch an AP to a cloud AP in one of the following methods:

    NOTE:
    The AP5030DN-C works as a cloud AP by default, so there is no need to switch its working mode.

    The working mode can be switched for the following AP models: AP2050DN, AP2050DN-E, AP4050DN-HD, AP4050DN-E, AP7050DN-E, AP7050DE, AP6050DN, AP6150DN, AP8030DN, AP8130DN, AP4051DN, AP4151DN, AP4050DN, AP4050DN-S, AP8150DN, AP8050DN, AP8050DN-S, AP1050DN-S, AD9430DN-12, and AD9430DN-24.

    • Using DHCP:

      • To use DHCP, ensure that the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus has been configured on the DHCP server using the Option 148 field.
      • The default management interface VLANIF 1 of an AP has been enabled to dynamically obtain an IP address by default. If the AP is unconfigured, it will send a DHCP request to apply for an IP address after it is powered on and connected to the current network. After receiving the request, the DHCP server replies with a DHCP response packet carrying the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus in the Option 148 field. The AP then parses the Option 148 field to obtain the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus. After the restart, the AP switches to a cloud AP.
    • Using the CLI:

      • If the DHCP method is unavailable, run the ap-mode-switch cloud command in the system view to switch an AP to a cloud AP. After this command is executed, the AP displays a message, indicating that the current configuration will be cleared and the AP will restart. After the restart, the AP switches to a cloud AP.
    • Using the registration center:
      1. After an administrator imports AP information, including the device ESN and type, the Agile Controller-Campus uploads the device ESN and Agile Controller-Campus information to the registration center.

      2. Run the undo cloud-mng register-center disable command to enable the device to proactively query the registration center.

        By default, the device proactively sends query packets to the registration center.

        Additionally, APs must be unconfigured and have no input on the console port. All the devices that are delivered most recently and support cloud-based management have the Huawei registration center's URL (register.naas.huawei.com) and port number (10020) preconfigured. Devices in V200R007 that support cloud-based management and do not have the Huawei registration center's URL or port number preconfigured can be upgraded to the latest software version to obtain default settings. When connecting to the network, APs query the management mode from the registration center and switch to the cloud managed mode automatically.

        The method of switching the working mode using the registration center is valid only for APs that have never been online.

        The working mode of Fat APs can be switched to the cloud mode using only the CLI but not the registration center.

  2. Configure information about the Agile Controller-Campus.

    To enable a cloud AP to go online, use either of the following methods to configure the cloud AP to obtain the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus:

    • Using DHCP:

      After the cloud AP sends a DHCP request to a DHCP server to apply for the IP address of the Agile Controller-Campus, the DHCP server replies with a DHCP response packet carrying the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus in the Option 148 field. The AP will register with the Agile Controller-Campus using this IP address or URL.

    • Using the CLI:
      • Run the system-view command to enter the system view.

      • Run the cloud-mng controller { ip-address ip-address | url url-string } port port-number command to configure an IP address or a URL for the Agile Controller-Campus.

        By default, no IP address or URL is configured for the Agile Controller-Campus on a cloud AP.

    • Using the registration center:

      When APs cannot obtain the Agile Controller-Campus address using DHCP or CLI, they proactively send query packets to the registration center to obtain the Agile Controller-Campus address. In this case, APs are not subject to limitations of empty configuration and no input on the serial port.

      APs in V200R007 that support cloud-based management have the URL (device-naas.huawei.com) and port number (10020) of the Agile Controller-Campus preset. When the APs are upgraded to the latest version, the configuration of the preset Agile Controller-Campus's URL and port number is generated, and the APs are registered with and authenticated by the Agile Controller-Campus. If the APs need to obtain the new URL and port number of the Agile Controller-Campus through the registration center, run the undo cloud-mng controller command to delete the configuration of the preset Agile Controller-Campus's URL and port number.

    An AP can use either the IP address or URL of the Agile Controller-Campus for registration. If both the IP address and URL are configured using commands, the newly configured one takes effect.

  3. Configure a cloud AP to go online.

    To enable a cloud AP to go online, configure its IP address using either of the following methods:

    • Using DHCP:

      1. Run the system-view command to enter the system view.

      2. Run the interface wan0 command to enter the WAN view.

      3. Run the dhcp-client enable command in the WAN view to enable the cloud AP to automatically obtain an IP address. Using DHCP to obtain an IP address and configuring a static IP address for the AP are mutually exclusive. If no IP address can be obtained using DHCP, configure IP address 169.254.1.1/16 for the AP.

        By default, a cloud AP automatically obtains an IP address in management VLAN 1.

    • Configuring a static IP address:
      1. Run the system-view command to enter the system view.

      2. Run the interface wan0 command to enter the WAN view.

      3. Run the ip address ip-address { mask-length | mask } [ gateway gateway ] command to configure the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address for the cloud AP in the management VLANIF.

        By default, no IP address, subnet mask, or default gateway address is configured for a cloud AP's management VLANIF interface.

      4. Run the dns-server ip-address1 [ ip-address2 ] command to configure IP addresses for DNS servers in the management VLAN for the AP.

        By default, no IP address is configured for a DNS server.

  4. (Optional) Change the management VLAN.

    After a cloud AP goes online, its management VLAN is uniformly changed by the Agile Controller-Campus. If the cloud AP fails to go online or is not managed by the Agile Controller-Campus, you can run the following commands to change its management VLAN.

    1. Run the system-view command to enter the system view.

    2. Run the interface wan0 command to enter the WAN view.

    3. Run the management-vlan vlan-id command to configure a management VLAN for the cloud AP.

      By default, the management VLAN of a cloud AP is VLAN 1.

Checking the Configuration

  • Run the display cloud-mng info to check the configuration of the Agile Controller-Campus.

  • Run the display cloud-mng execute-cli-list command to check the configuration delivered by the Agile Controller-Campus on the device.

  • Run the display cloud-mng register-center status command to check the status of the registration center.
