Checking Whether RUs Can Go Online

Context

Before deploying RUs onsite, complete network planning operations, for example, configure the central AP add RUs on the central AP. After RUs are connected to the network and powered on, they can automatically upgrade and go online. Users do not need to perform other configurations on the RUs onsite.

You can check whether the RUs go online properly on the central AP as planned. If the RU status displays as normal, the RUs have gone online properly.

Procedure

  • Run the display ap all command to check whether RUs go online on a central AP.

    RU state. For details, see Table 16-5.

    WLAN service configurations fail to be delivered to an RU after the RU goes online on a central AP.

    After the RU goes online on the central AP, WLAN service configurations are performed for the RU. If the link between the RU and central AP is disconnected or the peer end has no response, the RU enters the commit-failed state.

    Check the network connection.

    committing

    WLAN service configurations are being delivered to an RU after the RU goes online on a central AP.

    After the RU goes online on the central AP, WLAN service configurations are being delivered to the RU.

    This is a normal state, and no action is required.

    config

    WLAN service configurations are being delivered to an RU when the RU is going online on a central AP.

    After the RU establishes a link with the central AP, WLAN service configurations are delivered to the RU. During this process, the RU is in config state.

    This is a normal state, and no action is required.

    config-failed

    WLAN service configurations fail to be delivered to an RU when the RU is going online on a central AP.

    After the RU establishes a link with the central AP, WLAN service configurations are delivered to the RU. If the configuration delivery fails due to various reasons (such as link disconnection), the RU enters the config-failed state.

    Check the network connection.

    download

    An RU is in upgrade state.

    When the RU is performing an upgrade, it enters the download state.

    When the RU upgrade is complete, check the RU state.

    fault

    An RU fails to go online.

    The RU fails to go online, which is usually caused by the following:
    • The RU fails to obtain an IP address or obtains an incorrect IP address.
    • The network between the RU and central AP is faulty.
    • The RU fails to be authenticated.
    • The number of APs on a central AP has reached the maximum value.
    • The RU is faulty.

    Handle the RU online failure. For details, see AP Online Failure in the Troubleshooting Insights.

    idle

    It is the initialization state of an RU before it establishes a link with the central AP for the first time.

    The RU has not established a CAPWAP link with the central AP, or the MAC address and SN of the RU that is added offline are different from the actual MAC address and SN of the RU.

    Perform the following operations.

    Check whether the RU is connected to the network. If the RU connection is normal, go to next step.

    Check the MAC address and SN of the RU that is added offline are different from the actual MAC address and SN of the RU. If not, perform the following operations:
    1. Run the display ap all command to obtain RU information.
    2. Run the undo ap { ap-name ap-name | ap-id ap-id | ap-mac ap-mac | ap-group group-name | all } command to delete the RU.
    3. Run the

      ap-id ap-id [ type-id type-id | ap-type ap-type ] [ ap-mac ap-mac ] [ ap-sn ap-sn ]

      or ap-mac ap-mac [ type-id type-id | ap-type ap-type ] [ ap-id ap-id ] [ ap-sn ap-sn ] command to add correct RU information.

    name-conflicted

    The name of an RU conflicts with that of an existing RU.

    The name of an RU conflicts with the name of another RU that has been online on the same central AP.

    Run the ap-rename ap-id ap-id new-name ap-new-name command to change the RU name.

    normal

    An RU is working properly.

    An RU successfully goes online on a central AP.

    This is a normal state, and no action is required.

    standby

    The RU is in normal state on the standby central AP.

    The link between the active and standby ACs is normal. After the RU goes online, it enters the standby state on the standby central AP and the normal state on the active central AP.

    This is a normal state, and no action is required.

    ver-mismatch

    The version of an RU does not match that of the central AP on which the RU is to go online.

    The versions of the RU and the central AP mismatch.

    Log in to Huawei technical support website and download the release notes. Based on the version mapping, upgrade the RU or central AP to the matching version.
