Switching a Fit AP to a Fat AP or Cloud AP

Context

Switching a Fit AP to a Fat AP or Cloud AP on the AP,The administrator must connect a PC to the console port on the AP to log in to the AP, connect GE0/0/0 on the AP to a TFTP or FTP server, and switch the Fit AP to a Fat APor cloud AP, as shown in Figure 3-35.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before switching a Fit AP to a Fat AP or cloud AP, complete the following task:

  • Upload the system software file of the Fat AP or cloud AP to the

    NOTE:

    Only the AP2050DN, AP2050DN-E, AP4050DN-E, AP4050DN-HD, AP7050DN-E, AP7050DE, AP4030TN, AP6150DN, AP6050DN, AD9430DN-12, AD9430DN-24, AP8050DN, AP8050DN-S, AP8150DN, AP4050DN, AP4050DN-S, AP4051DN, AP4151DN, AP1050DN-S, AD9431DN-24X, AP8130DN, and AP8030DN support upload of the system software file to their backup area.

    The AP4030TN does not support cloud working mode.

Procedure

  1. Run:

    system-view

    The system view is displayed.

    Only AP5030DN, AP5130DN, AP4030DN, AP4130DN, AP9131DN, AP9132DN, AP3010DN-V2 need to run steps 2 and 3.

  2. Run:

    ap-mode-switch prepare

    The file system on the Fit AP allows for switching the Fit AP to a Fat AP. Skip this step if a Fat AP is switched to a cloud AP.

  3. Run:

    ap-mode-switch check

    The file system on the Fit AP is checked whether a Fit AP allows for switching to a Fat AP. Skip this step if a Fat AP is switched to a cloud AP.

    If not, do not perform the following steps. Otherwise, the AP file system may be damaged and the AP cannot properly start.

  4. Run the appropriate command to switch the system software file of a Fit AP to that of a Fat AP or cloud AP, depending on the file server and AP model used on the network:

    Commands for the AP2050DN, AP2050DN-E, AP4050DN-HD, AP4050DN-E, AP7050DN-E, AP7050DE, AD9430DN-24, AD9430DN-12, AP1050DN-S, AD9431DN-24X, AP4030TN, AP6150DN, AP6050DN, AP8050DN, AP8050DN-S, AP8150DN, AP4050DN, AP4050DN-S, AP4051DN, AP4151DN, AP8130DN and AP8030DN:

    • Run:
      ap-mode-switch { fat  | cloud } tftp filename server-ip-address

      The AP is connected to a TFTP server to download the system software file to switch a Fit AP to a Fat AP or cloud AP.

    • Run:
      ap-mode-switch { fat  | cloud } ftp filename server-ip-address user-name password [ port ]

      The AP is connected to an FTP server to switch the system software file of a Fit AP to that of a Fat AP or cloud AP.

    • Run:
      ap-mode-switch { fat  | cloud } sftp filename server-ip-address user-name password [ port ]

      The AP is connected to an SFTP server to switch the system software file of a Fit AP to that of a Fat AP or cloud AP.

    • Run:
      ap-mode-switch { fat  | cloud } 

      The AP obtains the system software file from the AP backup area to switch AP running mode.

    Commands for other AP models (these AP models cannot switch their running mode from Fit AP to cloud AP):

    • Run:
      ap-mode-switch tftp filename server-ip-address

      The AP is connected to a TFTP server to download the system software file to switch a Fit AP to a Fat AP.

    • Run:
      ap-mode-switch ftp filename server-ip-address user-name password [ port ]

      The AP is connected to an FTP server to download the system software file to switch a Fit AP to a Fat AP.

    • Run:
      ap-mode-switch sftp filename server-ip-address user-name password [ port ]

      The AP is connected to an SFTP server to download the system software file to switch a Fit AP to a Fat AP.

    After the command is run, the system asks you to restart the device. After you restart the device, the switching is complete.

    After the restart, factory settings of the AP that is switched to are restored.
