WLAN Architecture

WLAN Architecture

A WLAN has the wired side and wireless side. On the wired side, an AP connects to the Internet using Ethernet. On the wireless side, a STA communicates with an AP using 802.11. The WLAN architecture on the wireless side is the agile distributed architecture.

Agile Distributed Architecture

In agile distributed architecture shown in Figure 16-6, a central AP and RUs work together to provide wireless access, without the need of an AC.

A central AP cannot be cascaded with another central AP for extending the network.

To access the WLAN, STAs associate with RUs and the central AP. For details, see STA Access.
