Configuring Traffic Policing

Configuring Traffic Policing

Interface-based traffic policing allows the device to limit the rate of all service traffic on an interface. Flow-based traffic policing allows the device to limit the rate of packets matching traffic classification rules.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring traffic policing, complete the following tasks:

  • Configuring link layer attributes of interfaces to ensure that the interfaces work properly

  • Configuring IP addresses and routing protocols for interfaces to ensure connectivity

Configuring Interface-based Traffic Policing

To limit the rate of traffic on an interface, configure traffic policing on the interface. If the rate of received or sent packets exceeds the rate limit, the device discards packets.

  1. Run:

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run:

    interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  3. The commands to configure traffic policing vary according to different interfaces:

    GE interface view: qos car inbound cir cir-value [ cbs cbs-value [ pbs pbs-value ] | pir pir-value [ cbs cbs-value pbs pbs-value ] ]

By default, no QoS CAR parameter is configured.

Checking the Configuration

  • Run the display qos car statistics interface interface-type interface-number inbound command to check statistics about forwarded and discarded packets on the interface.
