Stack Connection Suggestions
In Figure 3-2, stack member switches are connected through service ports that are added to logical stack ports. A logical stack port can contain 1 to 16 stack member ports.
- It is recommended that you add at least two stack member ports to each logical stack port to improve stack link bandwidth and reliability.
- If two switches need to set up a stack, connect them in a chain topology. If three or more switches need to set up a stack, the ring topology is recommended, which is more reliable than the chain topology.
Stack setup just requires ordinary service cables instead of dedicated stack cables.
- All types of ports except GE ports on switches can be used for stack connections, such as 10GE, 40GE, and 100GE ports.
Optical ports can be connected using high-speed cables, AOC cables, or optical modules+fibers. Electrical ports can be connected using Category 6, Category 6A, or Category 7 cables.
- DAD can be performed on any type of port, and cables can be selected according to the port type.
