How Do I Install the Virtio Driver in the Windows Operating System?

If the VM installation package is made online, and the Windows operating system (OS) and a network adapter of the virtio type are installed on the VM, you need to perform the following steps to install the virtio driver in the Windows OS.
  1. Download the latest Windows virtio driver (for example, virtio-win-0.1-74.iso) from the official website, and save it on the FTP server.
  2. Run the download_package package-name ftp ftp-file user user-name password cipher command to download the virtio driver.
  3. Run the set cdrom file filename command to copy the virtio driver to the VM's CD-ROM.
  4. (Optional) Install the virtio driver. (The Windows Server 2008 OS is taken as an example.)
    1. After logging in to the VM using the VNC client, choose Start > Control Panel > Device Manager > HardWare in the Windows OS.

      The Device Manager page is displayed.

    2. Choose Other devices > SCSI Controller, right-click SCSI Controller, and choose Update Driver Software from the shortcut menu.

      The Update Driver Software page is displayed.

    3. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
    4. Click Browse, select the drive to be installed, and click OK.

      The Update Driver Software page is displayed.

    5. Click Next and OK to install the drive.
    6. Click Close.
