This document provides the basic concepts, configuration procedures, and configuration examples in different application scenarios of the virtualization feature supported by the device.

(Optional) Downloading a VM Installation Package

Context

If you make a VM installation package offline, download the VM installation package to the device. A VM installation package made online is on the device and does not need to be downloaded.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before downloading a VM installation package, complete the following tasks:

  • Powering on and logging in to the device

  • Saving the prepared VM installation package on the FTP server and completing routing configuration to ensure that there are reachable routes between the FTP server and device

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Configure IP addresses for a routing system virtual interface and the HostOS virtual interface veth1.

    NOTE:

    The routing system virtual interface is as follows: GE0/0/6.

    1. Run dhcp enable

      DHCP is enabled.

      By default, DHCP is disabled.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The view of the routing system virtual interface is displayed.

    3. Run ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length }

      An IP address is configured for the routing system virtual interface.

    4. Run dhcp select interface

      The DHCP server function is configured to assign IP addresses to clients from the interface address pool.

      By default, the DHCP server function for assigning IP addresses from the interface address pool is disabled.

      After this function is enabled, the system assigns an IP address to the HostOS virtual interface veth1 from the interface address pool on the routing system virtual interface. You can run the display ip pool interface interface-pool-name command to view the IP address.

    5. Run quit

      Return to the system view.

  3. Configure IP addresses for the physical interface GE0/0/5 and virtual interface br0.

    1. Run dhcp server ping packet number

      The number of times the device detects IP address conflicts before allocating IP addresses is set.

      By default, the device does not detect IP address conflicts before allocating IP addresses.

    2. Run interface gigabitethernet 0/0/5

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length }

      An IP address is configured for GE0/0/5.

    4. Run dhcp select interface

      The DHCP server function is configured to assign IP addresses to clients from the interface address pool.

      By default, the DHCP server function for assigning IP addresses from the interface address pool is disabled.

      After this function is enabled, the system assigns an IP address to the virtual interface br0 from the interface address pool on GE0/0/5. You can run the display ip pool interface gigabitethernet0/0/5 used command to view the IP address.

    5. Run quit

      Return to the system view.

  4. Run virtual-environment ip-address

    Enter the virtual-environment view.

    The parameter ip-address indicates the IP address of the virtual interface br0.

  5. Run download package package-name ftp ftp-file user user-name password cipher

    A VM installation package is downloaded.
