Configuring a Switch to Communicate with an NMS by NETCONF over SSH Mode

Prerequisites

There is a reachable route between the switch and NMS.

Context

The NMS actively sets up a NETCONF session with the switch in NETCONF over SSH mode. Therefore, enable the NETCONF function on the switch, and set the IP address and port number used by the switch to communicate with the NMS first.

Procedure

  1. Configure a NETCONF user.
    1. Run user-interface vty first-ui-number [ last-ui-number ]

      The VTY user interface view is displayed.

    2. (Optional) Run protocol inbound { all | ssh }

      The VTY user interface is configured to support the SSH protocol.

      By default, a user interface supports the SSH protocol.

    3. Run quit

      Return to the system view.

    4. Run aaa

      The AAA view is displayed.

    5. Run local-user user-name password or local-user user-name password { cipher | irreversible-cipher } password

      A local user is created.

      NOTE:
      • If you run the local-user user-name password { cipher | irreversible-cipher } password command to create a local user, the user password is displayed in plaintext, posing a security risk.
      • If you run the local-user user-name password command to create a local user, the user password is configured in interactive mode, which is securer.
      • If the access type of a user is API, the user name cannot be set to root.

    6. Run local-user user-name service-type api

      The type of the created user is set to NETCONF.

  2. Enable the NETCONF function.
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run netconf

      NETCONF is enabled and the NETCONF view is displayed.

    3. Run source ip ip-address [ port port-number ] or source ipv6-address ipv6-address [ port port-number ]

      The IP address and port number used by the switch to communicate with the NMS using NETCONF are configured.

    4. Run quit

      Return to the system view.

Verifying the Configuration

Run the display netconf all command in any view to display the NETCONF configuration.
