Licensing Requirements and Limitations for SNMP

Licensing Requirements and Limitations for SNMP

Involved Network Elements

The switch needs to work with a network management system.

Licensing Requirements

SNMP configuration commands are available only after the S1720GW, S1720GWR, and S1720X have the license (WEB management to full management Electronic RTU License) loaded and activated and the switches are restarted. SNMP configuration commands on other models are not under license control.

For details about how to apply for a license, see S Series Switch License Use Guide.

Feature Limitations

  • SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c lack of authentication capabilities, resulting in vulnerability to security threats. When security is a concern, SNMPv3 is recommended.
  • When multiple NMSs frequently access a device at the same time, the device responds to the NMSs slowly. In this case, you can reduce the access frequency of NMSs to ensure that the device can timely respond to the SNMP packets sent by NMSs.
