Overview of Mirroring

Overview of Mirroring

The mirroring function copies packets on specified ports (source ports or mirrored ports) and sends them to other specified ports (destination ports or observing ports).

During network operations and maintenance (O&M), network administrators often need to obtain and analyze packets sent to or from devices to monitor services and locate faults.

The mirroring function copies packets on mirrored ports and sends them to observing ports without affecting the packet processing capabilities of devices.

The received packets are then copied by observing ports and sent to monitoring devices, where they are analyzed by network administrators to determine whether network services are running normally.
